Hello, Mi Fans,
Over the decade the smartphone industry has seen a significant change from a basic wired Telephone to fully touchscreen and foldable. Not only this, 2020 International CES has got some awesome cutting-edge technology too. Though we are not going to talk about the upcoming ones, however, we will discuss recent developments and twists made to make smartphones more exciting. This brings us to the new discussion - What-if your smartphone has a Flip Camera set-up?
This set-up is one of the latest innovations from smartphone manufacturers as it offers a lot of capabilities that none of the other camera setups can. The mechanism features a motor that lets you flip the dual-camera module to the front of the phone to take selfies. This not only allows for a notch-free display but gives a whole new perspective when it comes to taking pictures and videos. The reason being you can control the rotation and angle of the camera. This also lets users take seamless panorama pictures, subject tracking in videos and more.
When the rear camera mode is turned on, the flip-triple camera setup will be as it is. However, the moment selfie mode is turned on the camera setup will flip up. The Flip Camera is controlled by a mechanized motor, which is claimed to have been built keeping several safety mechanisms in mind to give it durability. This mechanism implementation allows us to push the screen close to the edge of the phone. But the bezel will be still there as getting rid of those last few millimeters means adding a few hundred dollars to the cost. But for all that, the screen will look impressive because it’s big, the bezels are small, and there’s no notch or camera cutout.
Other Camera Mechanisms
1. The Pop-Up Camera Setup
Pop up camera setup is one of the latest innovations that was introduced alongside the flip camera. Not to mention, the pop-up camera has made quite an impact in the smartphone market. The decade has witnessed the greatest trends of different smartphone innovation which also includes an increase in display size. To overcome this, smartphone manufacturers started to increase the display size keeping the total phone size thereby increasing the screen to body ratio.
Earlier, the bezels were large in size due to the earpiece and the camera. With the recent developments, the earpiece has been tinned down and the camera is installed as a pop-up. This makes the device to achieve a very high screen-to-body ratio.
2. The Magnetic sliding front camera
This is also a new setup of the front camera that uses motorized mechanism to control its movement. In this setup, the front camera remains hidden at the backside of the device and once it is slide upwards, it will be projected upwards to take the selfie shots. Xiaomi has implemented this mechanism in the latest Mi Mix 3. This concept was quite successful and elegant looking as it cuts the bezels and chin extensively. Some smartphone brands have also implemented the same with a flip camera in the sliding piece. The advantage of this feature is the same as that of the normal flip-camera that it just need the rear camera setup for the front camera as well.
What If Your device has a Flip-camera setup?
As we have already discussed the several advantages and alternatives of flip camera setup, let's talk about the setup critically. It will reduce the number of cameras to be attached as there won't be any need for separate front cam as the rear cam itself acts like one. It also reduces the weight of the device to an extent because of this. It can also give the smartphone manufacturers the freedom for a bezel-less display for full-screen experience.
But there are some disadvantages too. It doesn’t move as quickly as expected and may take a second to switch, but that’s only a half-second longer than many camera apps take to switch over to the selfie camera anyway. The presence of a motor inside the camera can be harmful in a Long run as any machine in the world has friction and can cause wear and tear. The motor inside can also malfunction at times causing terrible situations.
But still, as the front camera used is the rear camera, it will be having good quality and can shoot excellent selfies and portraiture pictures. The ability to have the same setup as the rear camera in the front is always a plus.
So now it's time to tell us what you think about this. What will be your say on if you have this feature in your device?. Give your Feedback in the comments section below.
