1) Remove your case
Removing your case while gaming makes quite an impact letting heat disperse from the back of your phone.
2) Do not game while put on charging
As most of Mi & Redmi phones come with Qualcomm fast charge support you simply should not game while charging simultaneously as this will unnecessary heat up your smartphone.
3) Disable unwanted connectivity toggles
Turn off Location & Bluetooth (if you don't use Bluetooth headphones), Switch off either wifi or mobile data.

My experience with K20PRO
I haven't encountered any major heating issue yet even with SD855 powered K20 pro. Sometimes in Pubg on extended gaming for like 45 mins or an hour, device used to get warm but thanks to the 8 layer graphite cooling tech it settles down the warmness pretty quickly.
