Xiaomi is one of the biggest names in the tech industry and that's because it has to its name a number of products that range from smartphones, air purifiers, TVs and now an ebook reader too. After weeks of teasing, the company has finally launched the Mi Reader -- an Amazon Kindle substitute that features an HD e-ink display and supports 24 brightness settings and promises uniform brightness coverage of up to 90 percent as well as support for multiple file formats, including TXT, EPUD, PDF, DOC, XLS and PPT.

The company has revealed that the Mi Reader comes powered by a quad core processor and supports a wide range of file formats. For the OS, it sees it running a custom skin based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The ebook reader comes packing an 1,800mAh battery which can be charged using a Type C port.

While the ebook reader hasn't been launched in India yet, in its home country China, it has been launched at CNY 579 as a crowdfunded project which will go live starting Wednesday, November 20. The company has revealed that once the crowdfunding goal has been met, the Mi Reader's price will be increased to CNY 599. However, for now, there is little information on when the Mi Reader will go on open sale, and its subsequent move to international markets, including India.

For China, the company plans to start shipping the Mi Reader to the early adopters by next month -- December 18.

As for the specs of the ebook reader, the device features a 6-inch HD e-ink display with a pixel density of 212ppi. The Mi Reader comes powered by 1,800mAh battery that can be charged using a 5V/ 1.5A charger via the USB Type-C port. The processors on board Xiaomi's new ebook reader is the quad-core Allwinner B300 processor running at 1.8GHz. This configuration has been paired with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The reader is also lightweight at 178 grams.
