Hello Mi Fans,
Welcome to another thread from the Device team in the Custom ROM series. To the ones who are new here, Custom ROM series is series by the Device team in which we try out different device-specific custom ROMs and give out a detailed review so that you will get a clear cut idea about a ROM. All of us are waiting for the Android 10 experience in our Redmi Note 5 and here I am with the first Android 10 custom ROM as promised earlier. We will be reviewing the Pixel Experience ROM based on Android 10 for Redmi Note 5.
Disclaimer: Have a complete backup before flashing. I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, etc. Do this at your own risk.
Note: As the ROM already contains GApps within, so you need not flash it separately.

The wait is finally over. Android 10 based custom ROMs are now available for Redmi Note 5 in stable versions. It has been a while since the development has started and I was waiting for the stable ROM to be rolled out. The new version of Android has lots of features and this ROM is still in the starting phase and still lacks some Android 10 specific features. So Let’s dig deep into the review
The ROM is purely Android stock experience as you would expect from Pixel Experience ROMs and is also very stable and clean. A little disappointment is regarding the looks and UI as not much of a change is clearly visible between Android Pie and Android 10. But there are some features added in the new version and more features are under development and expected to be added in later updates.
Home screen and Volume bar
The home screen, UI and volume bar looks very familiar to the Android Pie version as of now and will be expected to have some change in coming updates. Things we can figure out is the google search bar fixed at the bottom and some detail and text format changes in the notification bar. The google bar does change colours if we switch to dark mode as seen in the screenshot.
The app drawer is also another aspect where it greatly resembles the Android Pie counterpart with similar round icons with a search bar at the top for easy access. The position of the clock and the battery percentage is changed a bit to the center than before.
Notification and quick settings bar
The new notification bar looks even more elegant with customizations of icons and of the brightness slider. It also has a shortcut key to the settings as before. The new looks are more minimalistic and offer a more user-friendly appearance.
Nothing new to the settings menu with regular coloured settings menu with a search bar at the top for easier access. It looks minimalistic in dark mode as well.
As we expect from a Pixel Experience ROM, the ROM is clean and free of junkware and so have very little storage consumed by the system. It contains necessary apps only and will be suitable for the ones who prefer their own choices of apps.
As expected from this ROM, the battery performance is very good with excellent stability and performance. A screen on time of around 7-8 hours is pretty sure and still maintains the performance and satisfactory RAM management as well.
The new ROM has lots of lock screen settings like Ambient display and Always On Display option. We can schedule its time and also make it appear according to one's choice.
This feature is one of the best in the new update with clear full-screen gesture navigation like that of MIUI. It had certain issues in previous Android versions but here they are more refined and made more simple. The most interesting thing for an MIUI user is that the back gesture is the same as that of MIUI which a slide from the left or right side. It also has a shortcut gesture for google assistant if we swipe from the bottom right corner.
Similar to what MIUI has as an app vault, this ROM has a google tray when we swipe from left to right on the homepage. It gives news feeds of your google account so that you won't miss any news updates. The effect of the dark mode is clearly visible here. The looks are even more minimalist now.
One of the best features of the Android 10 version is the update frequency. Google has promised much faster updates in this Android version and so we expect updates to be more regular and frequent than usual.
The ROM is based on Android 10 with lots of Android 10 specific features. But still, some features are missing and hopefully will be coming in the following updates.
Let's compare the new Pixel Experience ROM with MIUI!
