The Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship is considered to be one of the best going around even today. However, the device lacks some of the features that many come to expect from high end offerings, which wasn't a problem until recent as the Mi 5 had practically zero competition in the Indian market. But that changes with the arrival of the LeEco Le Max 2, which comes with an almost identical price point and a significantly better hardware specs sheet. So does this mean the Mi 5 is no longer the best flagship phone on the budget? Let's have a look.

The highlight feature of the Mi 5 is its design, thanks to its curved edges on the back. The Le Max 2 is no slouch when it comes to design either as it's featuring a premium metal body, although it's slightly derivative. What takes the cake, however, is the raw hardware that's packing underneath the Le Max 2. It comes with up to 6GB of RAM (4GB on the entry level model) and a massive 5.7-inch Quad HD "Super Retina" display, while the Mi 5 maxes out at 3GB of RAM and a 5.15-inch 1080p display. Only the RAM and the storage are higher on the top-end Le Max 2 model, which means that even with the entry level model, customers are getting a premium display, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

The Mi 5 packs a top of the line 16MP rear camera with 4-axis optical image stabilization that allows for wobble free videos. For the selfie loving public, Xiaomi has attached an 4MP wide-angle front facing camera sensor with the Mi 5. The Le Max 2 sports an attractive 21MP rear camera, which also comes with OIS. Although in terms of pure hardware, it might not be comparable with the Mi 5. There's an 8MP front facing camera though, which should let you take decent selfies.

The Mi 5 and the Le Max 2 come with Qualcomm's quad-core 64-bit Snapdragon 820 chipset underneath. This means that they're on level pegging in terms of performance, although it would ultimately come down to UI optimizations to determine real world speed and performance.

Both handsets are running Android 6.0 Marshmallow, so there's not much to differentiate between the two in this area. In terms of battery, the Le Max 2 comes with a 3,100 mAh unit while the Mi 5 packs a 3,000 mAh battery pack. While the LeEco offering has a slight advantage on paper, it's not much to definitively give it an edge over the Mi 5. We'll call this one a tie.
