HI MI FANS,

Today I'm back with yet another tech news. After making it an exclusive feature for paying members of its Premium service, YouTube is now bringing the picture-in-picture (PiP) mode to all users on Android 8.0 for free. Let's see more about this new feature by YouTube in this thread. So let's get started with this thread.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Picture-in-picture mode was first introduced in Android Oreo.
  • Allows users to watch a video in a corner of the phone’s screen while simultaneously using another app.
  • You can then drag the window to any part of the display to reposition the video.
  • Picture-in-picture mode has been part of the YouTube Premium package up until now.
  • Users should have to be running Android 8.0 Oreo or higher in order for the feature to work.

YouTube picture-in-picture mode has been available previously, but only for those that had subscribed to YouTube Premium. Picture-in-picture mode was first introduced in Android Oreo, and allows users to watch a video in a corner of the phone’s screen while simultaneously using another app. The feature allows you to multitask, so you could for example, search for take away food in another app while still watching a trailer for Infinity War.

YouTube previously restricted picture-in-picture mode to Red subscribers (which costs $9.99 a month), but it looks like the video service is expanding that feature to those without a subscription. Some Reddit users without Red memberships found that picture-in-picture worked for some content they tested, but not for music videos. (YouTube does say that picture-in-picture mode featuring music content is only available for Red subscribers.) As Android Police notes, the limited rollout seems to be controlled on the server side (aka, you can’t trigger it yourself), and YouTube has likely given content owners the ability to restrict picture-in-picture mode on their videos.

After making it an exclusive feature for paying members of its Premium service, YouTube is now bringing the picture-in-picture (PiP) mode to all users on Android 8.0 for free. The feature was made available for free sometime during the month of May but wasn't announced officially until recently, when it was posted on the YouTube support page. Now, despite being free for those on Android, users will still have to be running Android 8.0 Oreo or higher in order for the feature to work and will have to be located in the United States. Also, videos that have music content will only work in PiP mode for Premium members.

If you are in new to PiP, you can take advantage of the feature by simply playing a video in the YouTube app, then tapping the home button. Once you do this, the video will shrink into the corner and you will have enabled the PiP feature. You can then drag the window to any part of the display to reposition the video. If you want to enlarge the video back to its normal size, you can double tap the video area or if you want to close the video, simply drag it down to the bottom of the screen. At present, there has been no mention made if or when the same capability will be rolled out to iOS devices for free.

So Mi Fans this all about the Picture-In-Picture mode by Youtube. If you need more information regarding this thread please click on the source links given below. Let me know your thoughts and comments about this thread in the comment section below.
