Hello Mi Fans,
Hope you guys are having loads of fun here in Mi Community. We are again back with the Tech Class session. In today's 'Tech Class Chapter' we will know more about Bluetooth 5.0 and what’s improved from it’s previous generation

What is Bluetooth 5.0?
Bluetooth5.0_866x438.png
Bluetooth 5 is the newest published version of the Bluetooth standard from the Bluetooth Special Interest Group. It’s built on top of the specification for Bluetooth Low Energy 4.2 with Length Extension which is respectively built on Bluetooth 4.1 and 4.0. Thus Bluetooth 5.0 can be seen as revision of Bluetooth Low Energy. It’s worth noting that if you’ve heard of this cool thing called Bluetooth Mesh, that is a specification which does exist, but it’s unrelated to Bluetooth 5. It sits on top of radios which can speak to any of the Bluetooth Low Energy family of protocols (4.X and 5.X).The new standard will also transfer data at double the speed of v4.2, from 1Mbps to 2Mbps and the capacity of data broadcasts will increase 800 per cent. The Bluetooth SIG says the increase in data will allow for improved and more context relevant solutions.Perhaps the biggest improvement that Bluetooth 5.0 will make on your life is that it will enable two devices to be paired to another device at the same time
Features of Bluetooth 5.0
  • Speed

Bluetooth 5 is faster than Bluetooth 4 with the format having 2Mbps, twice the speed of Bluetooth 4.The 5Mbps bandwidth of the Bluetooth 5 in comparison to 2.1 Mbps from the previous generation of the Bluetooth. It offers four different data rates to accommodate a variety of transmission ranges: 2Mbps, 1Mbps, 500kbps, 125kbps.  Because an increase in transmission range requires a reduction in data rate, the lower data rate of 125kbps was added to support applications that benefit more from improved range.
  • Broadcasting channel

More efficient use of broadcasting channels on the increasingly crowded 2.4 GHz band, with less broadcast time required for completion of tasks, opens the way for richer connectionless, beacon-based Bluetooth solutions. These broadcasting channel improvements will enable developers to create experience-based apps that can bridge the physical and virtual worlds. Advertising extensions in Bluetooth 5.0 provide the capability to offload advertising data from the 3 traditional advertising channels to the full set of data channels for more frequency diversity. A larger data packet of up to 255 octets enables new threshold features such as asset tracking while maintaining backward compatibility with products developed for an earlier Bluetooth specification.
  • Power consumption

One of the advantages of Bluetooth 5 is its low power consumption. The version’s technology has more focus on the Bluetooth Low Energy protocol, hence, less battery consumption. if it communicates more data per seconds rate, the amount of time it will do that is also at a reduced rate. In other words, the faster transfer speed also implies its low power consumption rate. The new features and benefits of Bluetooth 5.0 are designed specifically for Bluetooth with low energy functionality.
  • Backward  compatible

1-5_866x438.png
Devices implementing only the low energy feature of Bluetooth 5 will be backward compatible with Bluetooth 4.2, 4.1 and 4.0 devices that also implement the low energy feature. Devices implementing the Basic Rate/Enhanced Data Rate (BR/ EDR) Core Configuration will be backward compatible with all adopted Bluetooth Core Specification versions beginning with 1.1 that also implement Bluetooth BR/EDR.
  • Range

Bluetooth5_Features_1_866x438.jpg
The Bluetooth 5 spec allows low-energy transmissions to sacrifice data rate for more range. A lot more range upto four times the range of Bluetooth 4.2 LE, for a maximum of around 800 feet. That’s a theoretical maximum, mind you. you can expect much less, though it’s still going to be a huge improvement over older versions of Bluetooth. You won’t get that kind of range all the time on all device. It have to consciously choose to sacrifice total bandwidth for range. But it's perfect for many Internet of Things (IoT) devices, which often transmit small amounts of data but need to reach all over a wide range
  • Dual Audio

Bluetooth 5.0 allows you to play audio on two connected devices at the same time. you can two pairs of wireless headphones or speakers and them stream audio to both of them at once, all via standard Bluetooth. Or even you could play audio on two different speakers in different rooms. You could even stream two different audio sources to two different audio devices at the same time, so two people could be listening to two different music, but streaming from the same phone.

Conclusion
Everybody wants to move with the new trends that keep coming every day, Bluetooth 5.0 is much better than the previous Bluetooth versions whichinclude increased data rate, faster range, and more broadcast capacity. In this case, Bluetooth 5.0 become popular in IoT(Internet of Things), smartphones, Bluetooth beacons, and various tech devices.
