Today we are doing a poll on one of the most debatable subjects in the Indian smartphone market, the Smartphone Back Build. So in this thread, we will try to explain a couple of them and it's up to you to poll for your best pick and provide us with the feedback.
So let's get started...!!!
As you all know, it is the back side of the device which is in most cases removable by certain tools. These covers protect the battery and other internal parts and are nowadays glued to the body and not often screwed.
Types of Smartphone Backs:
It is one of the popular designs in the smartphone market as of now. This setup is popular as it can be implemented cheaper than any other method. And as you all know, many designs, colours, gradient finishes are possible by plastic as it is flexible. The use of plastic is still prefered by some smartphone brands as it reduces the heft of the device compared to other covers. But the main drawback of the plastic back is that it lacks structural build quality and offer a much lesser premium feel.
2. Metal Back
This design is popularly seen smartphones in the mid-budget segment devices. Xiaomi has built very compactly, structurally strong devices having a metal back. Xiaomi is one of the leading manufacturers who took this design pretty seriously. The design offers very good compactness to the device. The occurrence of bending is very limited. It can also give a budget premium feel but much more a feeling of strength.
3. Glass Back
This is one of the newest designs which has recently crept into the mid-range section from the higher range section. Redmi has done a pretty good job by bringing the glass back design to the budget segment via the new Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro. The glass back is one of the most beautiful design you can ever see in a smartphone. Its feel is so premium that even though the back is glass and prone to break, we are compelled to buy it. Adding more to the temptation by the glass, gradient finishes on the glass can even make it better. But as I have mentioned earlier, it can be broken in some unfortunate incidents of falls and cannot withstand such occurrences as the metal-backed device can. But it gives a compact, structurally strong feel to the device. But more is the premium feel to the device. The setup is costly as replacement of the back glass in case of breaks is also not so cheap.
4. Ceramic Back
This is one of the most expensive ways of building a smartphone back or if not, the most expensive. It is very similar to glass in appearance but even more glossy and offers a feel of best in class. The back is so smooth that you can't keep it down from your hand. But the expense of implementing the setup has forced the manufacturers to implement this only in high-end devices. Xiaomi has done the ceramic setup with one of their flagship devices the Mix series. The feeling you get on holding the device is uncommentable. But it can also be prone to break but are structurally very strong.
