Hello Mi Fans,
Welcome to yet another thread from the Device team in the 'Custom ROM' series. This time we are reviewing another Stock Android-based ROM which is pretty stable and also offers excellent customizations. We are reviewing the Bootleggers ROM based on Android Pie. The initial impression on the ROM is that the ROM is stable with excellent battery backup. So without any further ado, let's start the review.
Disclaimer: Have a complete backup before flashing. I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, etc. Do this at your own risk.
Note: As the ROM does not contain GApps within, you need to flash it separately.
To know the process for Unlocking the Bootloader, Installing Custom Recovery and flash ROM, you can refer the threads given below:
As explained earlier, the ROM is purely stock-based with great resemblance to pixel experience ROM. This would be a good pick for the ones who wish to have a stock android experience but still prefers some customizations.
The homepage resembles stock Android with some minor differences in fonts and notification bar icons. It has a beautiful voLTE symbol and clock with a customizable format. It has by default a widget that displays date and day information and a welcome message depending upon the time of the day.
The app drawer, especially in dark mode and red accent, is a treat to use. The color stands up precisely with beautiful icons and smooth swiping experience. It has an accented swipe bar and a google search bar at the top.
Notification and quick settings bar:
Here you won't find many differences with other Pie-based ROMs. It has a normal rounded quick settings button with an accent color like red in my samples. The quick settings are customized and also includes a sliding brightness bar.
The settings look gorgeous with bright rounded icons in different colors. It has a search button at the top. You have a whole lot of features from this setting as usual plus the unique Bootleg Dumpster settings where you can get your ultimate customization.
Similar to what MIUI has as an App vault, this ROM has a Google tray when we swipe from left to right on the homepage. It gives news feeds of your Google account so that you won't miss any news updates. In this ROMs, the Google tray is also impacted by the dark mode theme and look gorgeous.
The ROM is stock Android and does not have any junk apps or apps pre-installed other than some useful apps. The ROM also doesn’t contain Google apps, so it needs to be flashed separately. Due to this, the ROM is very clean and consumes very little storage and will be very handy is if you are using the 3,32GB variant.
Bootleg Dumpster settings:
This part is what makes it apart from other ROMS. It provides with unique sets of customization from themes to animation. There is also an option for full-screen gesture navigation which is very fluidic to use.
One of the best features of this ROM is the support for OTA updates. If you are using supported recoveries like orange fox recovery, you can update directly by downloading OTA updates like many advanced custom ROMs. The update frequency is high with very active development.
The ROM is now running on Android Pie with most of the Pie features included. Currently, I’m testing Bootlegger ROM 4.3 Stable version. The ROM usually gets updates very often with very fast debugging. The ROM is now running on Android Pie with a security patch of last month.
