After a long wait of 18 months Xiaomi has released an update to its Mi 4 flagship At Mobile World Congress  the company unveiled the Mi 5. The Mi 5 is quite an update over the Mi 4—especially in the design department. The Mi 5 is Xiaomi's latest flagship, But how do those compare against the older Mi 4—just how much better are they? Let’s take a look! (Here I am comparing the Mi 5 32 GB variant with Mi 4 16 GB variant)

Xiaomi Mi 5 vs Xiaomi Mi 4: Specifiaction

The Mi 5 gets a not in significant memory upgrade over the Mi 4. The older Mi 4 came with either 2GB or 3GB of RAM, depending on the model. The new Mi 5 ads an extra gigabyte to each: you’ll now get 3GB in the standard edition and 4GB in the Pro.
Storage has also gotten a boost. The Mi 4 came in 32GB and 64GB options. The Mi 5 still offers those, but if you buy the Pro edition you’ll be able to grab a 128GB size as well.
As for processors the Mi 4 features a relatively weak Snapdragon 801 chipset. The new Mi 5, however, packs in a top-end Snapdragon 820 CPU. The 820 leaves the 801 in the dust

Xiaomi Mi 5 vs Xiaomi Mi 4: Design
At first glance, the Xiaomi Mi 4 bears a striking resemblance to the design of the iPhone -- especially the stainless steel banding around the sides. The company has obviously owes a good deal to Apple, and the white plastic inserts in the frame are definitely familiar.
I quite like the feel of the phone. It sits comfortably in my hand, though the edges of the steel frame can are a little sharp. Despite the glossy plastic backing, the handset has quite a premium feel to it thanks to this metal edging. The power and volume rockers are on the right, and are easy to reach without any strenuous finger stretching.

At first glance, the Xiaomi Mi 5 bears a striking resemblance to the design of the Mi Note. The Mi 5 has a unique design to offer. The smartphone has enough to attract eyeballs.
The device is lightweight and easy to grip in one hand, thanks to the curved sides. It feels solid in the hands. Despite the glass back, it is not slippery.

Moreover, it is perfectly sized for one-handed use and weighs at just 129 grams for the base version and 139 grams for the Pro version. The device measures 144.6 x 69.2 x 7.3 mm (5.69 x 2.72 x 0.29 in), while the Pro version comes with a ceramic back.

As for the Mi4, it features a glass body with curved sides and an overall pleasing aesthetics, dimensionally, it measures 139.2 x 68.5 x 8.9 mm (5.48 x 2.70 x 0.35 in) and weighs 149 g (5.26 oz). Despite the new materials, the Mi 5 actually comes in 10 grams lighter than the Mi 4. The Mi 5 is also significantly thinner than the Mi 4 at 7.2mm versus the Mi 4’s 8.9mm thickness. Both phones come in black or white, but the Mi 5 also has a gold option but here i am comparing the 32GB variant of Mi 5 with Mi 4 16 GB variant

Xiaomi Mi 5 vs Xiaomi Mi 4: Display

As for displays, the Mi 5 gets a slightly larger display at 5.2-inches. That compares to the Mi 4’s 5.0-inch display. The disappointing thing is the Mi 5 is still stuck at the same 1920x1080 resolution that the Mi 4’s display has. Because of that, and because the screen is a bit larger, it means the Mi 5 display actually has a lower ppi at 428 versus the Mi 4’s 441 ppi but  still it has an addition of extra Backlit LEDs resulting in total of 16 LEDs which are not only brighter with an output of 600 nits, but are also Power Efficient resulting into less battery drain and more Screen On Time .

but some times I feel that the MI 4 Display is still better then MI 5, specially in low loght condition where generally we need a high brightness, Mi 5 didnt give that automatically but Mi 4 did very well, but as we know that  MI 4 is getting updates from last 2 years and Mi 5 didnot got any updates till now, so this equation surely will change .

Xiaomi Mi 5 vs Xiaomi Mi 4: Cameras
Camera wise, the primary shooter of Mi 5, located at the rear, shoots at 16MP and packs 1/2.8″ sensor size, geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, panorama, HDR. The camera is protected by Sapphire glass. The secondary ‘selfies’ camera, embed on the front, comes with a 4MP sensor that packs f/2.0 aperture, 1/3″ sensor size, 2µm pixel size.

In Mi 4 Camera wise, the primary shooter, located at the rear, shoots at 13MP and packs 1/3″ sensor size, geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, panorama, HDR. The secondary ‘selfies’ camera, embed on the front, comes with a 8MP sensor that packs f/1.8 aperture

Cam Samples
here are the few unedited clicks taken from Mi5 and Mi 4 (first pic in each is taken from Mi 5 and the other is from Mi 4)

By looking these samples I can say that My Mi 4 is much better than Mi 5 but as we all know that  MI 4 is getting updates from last 2 years and Mi 5 got only two updates till now, so this equation surely will change .

Xiaomi Mi 5 vs Xiaomi Mi 4: Performance
Coming to the performance of Mi 5 it is Just Awesome. I had no issues with multi-tasking or gaming. Heavy games like Asphalt and Mortal Combat ran smooth and graphics rendering was flawless. Also, if you wish to give this Device to kids then there is a ‘Child mode’ – in which you can enable/ disable certain apps from the settings.
Just to remind you what’s inside in the new Mi 5 32 GB Version then it is powered by a 1.8GHz quad-core 64-bit Snapdragon 820 SoC coupled with 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM and adreno 530. It runs Android M-based MIUI 7 out-of-the-box.

I had no issues with multi-tasking  in Mi 4 but the device gets heated up while playing Heavy games like Asphalt and Mortal Combat ran s. Also, if you wish to give this Device to kids then there is a ‘Child mode’ – in which you can enable/ disable certain apps from the settings.Apart from being a smooth performer, it has a big battery and fast charging support with future proof USB Type-C. It supports dual SIM card  with LTE -12 CAT modem which supports uptu 600 MBPS downloading speed, alsoIt is the first Xiaomi Phone to come with a Physical Home Button which has integrated fingerprint Sensor in the same.
Just to remind you what’s inside in the new Mi 4 16 GB Version then it is powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core4 Snapdragon 801 SoC coupled with 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM and adreno 330. It runs Android M-based MIUI 7 currently.Mi 4 have only single sim support and No fingerprint sensor(also no 4G in the Indian region)
Antutu BenchMarks

In the terms of the performance the Mi 4 doesnot even get a chance to stand even half of the Mi 5

Xiaomi Mi 5 vs Xiaomi Mi 4: Audio
One thing that is must in a device is to have good speakers, and Mi 5 certainly gets it right. The speakers provide much better output while comparing to the Mi 4 it is double louder. also the output is very crisp and clear Mi 5 and Mi 4 supports a wide range of popular video formats such as MKV, MP4, M4V, AVI, XVID and more. It can also play 4K H265 videos. Mi 5 doesnot have the Fm Radio but Mi 4 has FM radio .

Xiaomi Mi 5 vs Xiaomi Mi 4: Battery
The Mi 5 also has a smaller battery pack inside. It features a 3000mAh battery versus the Mi 4’s 3080 mAh battery. However, the difference isn’t that big and chances are the Mi 5’s battery will last just as long or longer than the Mi 4 due to more energy efficient components.also the Mi 5 supportsQualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0. wheeas Mi 4 supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0.

Final Conclusion:
The Mi 5 is the clear winner over the Mi 4. in the terms of performance, multitasking and storage also in the battery usage but Mi 4 tops in the camera department till now, but i am sure that with the updates starts coming oput for Mi 5 it will surpass all the other devices Also the Mi 5's body and design have also received a much welcome—and sexier—glass upgrade over the old plastic Mi 4.

Note : this comparision/review is based on personal usage of the devices, and It does not relate to anything official from Xiaomi.

I think the camera of mi5 is way  better, you should've focused pics better as it has phase detection autofocus, it'll always be darker than normal by default
