I hope you are enjoying the awesome weather. From the title you must have assumed what this thread is going to be about. I'm going to write down all the steps required to Flash a Custom ROM and the pre-requisites to flash a Custom ROM. But first, let me give a short information about Custom ROMs.
What is a Custom ROM?
A Custom ROM is a phones firmware/software based on Google Android Platform. Android being open source any developer or an enthusiast can edit the codes, make changes as per their convenience, re-compile and re-release for a variety of devices. It not only changes the appearance of the phone, but it also changes the behaviour of the phone. Android community develops all these ROMs. Apart from the android community, its the core group of developers who develop ROMs out of their passion.
1. Unlocked Bootloader:
The very first thing you need to do in flashing a Custom ROM is to Unlock Bootloader of your phone. For the guide to unlock bootloader go Here.
2. Custom Recovery Flashed (TWRP Recommended):
To flash a Custom ROM you need a Custom Recovery installed on your phone. TWRP recovery is recommended because its the most easy to flash and easy to use Custom Recovery. You can find a compatible TWRP Recovery for your phone here. You can find guides on how to flash Custom Recovery on Mi Community. All you need to do is search for it on Mi Community.
3. Custom ROM File:
You can find Custom ROM file download links on the particular Custom ROM providers website or XDA Developers. Make sure you download a compatible ROM file for your phone because if you don't, there is a chance that you will soft brick your phone.
4. Gapps file:
You need a Google Apps file package for installing basic google apps which includes Google Play Store, Google Framework, Google Maps, etc. So its one of the important thing to flash while flashing Custom ROM. You can find compatible Gapps file for your ROM from OpenGapps.
Steps for flashing Custom ROM:
Before I start with the steps, make sure you have unlocked the Bootloader, flashed Custom Recovery and downloaded the ROM and Gapps file.
Now, move the ROM and Gapps file to your Internal Memory of your phone where you can locate them easily while flashing.
Another important thing to do is take backup of the Current ROM you are using just in case something goes wrong so that you can restore the old System back.
Once you are done with these things, read the steps given below:
1. Reboot to recovery mode.
2. Go to wipe--> Advance wipe--> Select (Cache, Dalvik cache, System & Data) & Swipe to Wipe it.
3. Go to the main menu again.
4. Go to install--> locate ROM file and swipe to flash it. After successful flash go back to main menu.
5. Go to install--> locate Gapps file and swipe to flash it. After successful flash go back to main menu.
6. Go to wipe--> Advance wipe--> Select (Cache & Dalvik cache) & Swipe to Wipe it. After successful wipe go back to main menu.
7. Go to reboot--> Select System.
Now the phone will reboot to the new ROM/System you have installed.
First boot always take time so have patience.
After flashing any ROM let your phone cool down to normal temperature before you start using it. Please don't complain the phone is heating and lagging. Flashing anything have heavy CPU usage, thus result in heating.
Flashing Custom ROMs will void your warranty.
If anything goes wrong while flashing, don't blame me. It's a risk that you choose to do so whatever happens you are responsible for it and not us.
