Hello, Mi Fans!
We, as humans, have an instinctual desire for privacy and while the expansion of the world leaves almost no choice for it; we, at MIUI, understand and prioritize your right for privacy and so we do incorporate features that go along with your different privacy needs, protecting you against the transparent existence - of course, if only it’s not by choice.

Over the course of time, you, as a new user or as an existing one, might need to have an understanding of different ways to hide a content in MIUI:

1. Hide Single Photos via Gallery (Saved in Mi Cloud)
You can use your Mi Cloud space to store photos and keep it private in MIUI gallery app. Remember photos hidden via this method will be saved on Mi Cloud and can be retrieved later.
  • Open gallery app
  • Go to albums tab and open a photo you want to hide
  • Click ‘Hide’ (It might ask you to sync gallery first)
  • The photo will be saved in ‘Hidden Album’ on Mi Cloud

How to view them back on Mobile
  • Having your gallery sync on, go to albums tab
  • Swipe down until it asks for a password (set privacy protection password, if needed)
  • There you have it all listed.

How to view them back on PC
  • Go to http://i.mi.com, gallery - albums
  • Click ‘Private’ and you can view your hidden photos.

2. Hide Whole Photo Album in Gallery App (Hides from getting listed in gallery, saved locally only)

If you just want to hide the album from getting listed in gallery app without actually storing the content on Mi Cloud, then you should use this method. Remember all the hidden content will be there on the device only.

  • Press and hold an album and click ‘Hide’ (Named ‘Mark Invisible’ in MIUI 9)
  • That album won’t be listed in gallery app
  • Remember, the album just got hidden from getting listed (and it’s still there locally)

How to retrieve it back
  • To view the hidden album back, go to gallery settings
  • Turn on ‘show hidden photos’ (‘show invisible albums’ in MIUI 9)

3. Hide file/folders in File Manager (Saved Locally)
Not only the images, you can even encrypt and hide other files, even folders to give you the sigh of relief, this way the content will be encrypted and hidden but locally in your storage.

  • Open Mi Explorer app
  • Press and hold, file/folder, three dots and click ‘Hide’
  • Content will be encrypted and hidden locally.

How to retrieve it back
  • Open Mi Explorer app
  • Go to storage tab and swipe down until it asks for a password.
  • Hidden folders will have all the content you hid.
  • Remember, this is still saved locally.

4. Other Content (Saved in Mi Cloud)
  • Go to settings - lock screen & password - Privacy protection password
  • You can hide messages & notes too in Mi Cloud.
  • Know more about it here.

That's it for now folks! As always, your feedback and suggestions are welcomed, let us know in the comments below.

FAQ
1. Should I take a backup of content saved on Mi Cloud?
  • If you have your sync on then for content saved via step 1 and 4 doesn’t need to be backed up locally, a simple sign in will get you your content back, and at the same time content hidden locally, via step 2 & 3 should be retrieved beforehand and backed up.
