Everyone in this generation are well known about the camera, so in this Tech class, we will discuss on Camera, Its features and How it works etc.

So let's start the Tech class.
The meaning of a Camera Phone
  • A camera phone is a same as a mobile device that can capture pictures and record videos. The pictures and video clips from the phone can then be transferred or stored in a computer as well shared with other mobile devices and so on.
  • Most, new mobile phones are already equipped with cameras with different levels of quality.

Working principle behind Smartphone Camera

  • The working process in Smartphones is as same as DSLRs. The user or the Smartphone camera focus the object, Light enters into the lens. Those apparatus determines the light that reaches to the sensors while the shutters determine how long the sensors can expose to light.
  • The sensors capture the image of the object, the camera hardware process the image and stored the file.
  • Most of the items on this list are handled by relatively simple machines, so their performance is dictated by the laws of physics. That means that there are some observable phenomena that will affect your photos in fairly predictable ways.
Different parts of a camera
There are some basic camera parts to identify in today’s digital world. Whether you have a Smartphone or a digital SLR, these parts will inevitably be found on most cameras.
  • The lens plays most vital parts role of a camera. For capturing a sharply - detailed picture it's essential to have a good quality of lenses. a good quality of lens The light enters through the lens, and this is where the photo process begins.
  • Lenses can be either fixed permanently to the body or interchangeable. They can also vary in focal length, aperture, and other details.

  • An aperture is a hole through which the light reaches to the camera. With the different effects, aperture changes the amount of light that moves to the camera lens.
  • Though this one plays the main role on capturing an image so larger aperture passes more light for a brighter image but in case of smaller apparatus, it makes the image darker due to low light pass through it.
  • In case of depth measuring, some images have thin or shallow depth where the background is out of focus. For larger depth of field, both foreground and background are sharp.
Image sensor
  • As camera’s sensor is photosensitive that capture lights from different sources to form a digital image. An electric charge produced when photos from light collected in photosite. For more bright light the charge generated is more. We often heard about CMOS sensors, as these sensors are much less expensive to manufacture.
  • The complementary metal-oxide semiconductor Sensors have to convert light into electrons. This sensor consumes less power and due to standard silicon production line, these are extremely inexpensive.
  • In the other hand, CCD sensors are focused on high quality. So they consume as much as powerful than a CMOS sensor.
  • Every camera uses the flashlight mode according to the availability whether it built-in or external. The use of the flash device was started to produce an artificial light on the object at a color temperature of 5500K to help eliminate the scene.
  • In smartphones, Auto flash mode fires the light when the object is in low light for better exposure.
  • While in flash off mode the camera uses the natural light with a long exposure, in other hand camera fires forces flash even there is enough available light with Fill-in Flash Mode.
Science behind Image capturing
  • When we switching to the Camera app the device allows lights to travel through the lens. When the light strikes the image sensor it measures the intensity of light from different spots.Lights must be focused on the image sensor.
  • Also, various elements will rotate to provide a sharper focus. In some cameras, they use automatic focus where the camera itself adjust the elements automatically or manually.
  • After converting each pixel to electrons, an analog to digital chip converts the lights with each pixel to a digital value. After the camera moves the digital value data, the bits reaches to the memory card and by using the firmware camera write the data to the card.
The Dual camera Technology
  • In the last year, Xiaomi launched dual camera mounted device MI A1 where one cam used for wide angle and Telephoto combination by another one. To allow the bokeh effect in smartphone-like DSLR.
  • Manufactures now implanted 2 cameras where the primary one works like a typical camera for adding more clarity with the help to monochrome feature and the second one is for zooming purpose.
  • And with some other devices, the second camera works to capture for depth. Having a dual camera is more advantageous rather than the single camera in better picture quality, Faster focus etc.
