LPDDR4X innovation for mobile devices is moving the global mobile DRAM market, driving smarter, inventive possibilities. Talking about its predecessor LPDDR4 is an optimized solution for diverse applications that need higher performance with lower power consumption within small form factor.It is currently used in flagship and high-end segments of mobile devices only, but its demand will grow fast into lower segments as the entire industry requires such technical benefits. The LPDDR4X RAM is 15% more efficient as compared to its previous version. Not only LPDDR4X delivers the industry’s highest speed for ultra-slim advanced form factors to support faster multitasking and ultimate user experiences.
LPDDR4X support was first introduced the smartphone world by MediaTek in co-operation with Samsung and SK Hynix, on the Helio P20, while all new Helio products including the X30, P30, P25 and P23 and future Helio products also support the latest memory standard as well.
- BENEFITS OF USING LPDDR4X
LPDDR4 is based on the 4th Generation of low power DDR DRAM technology, however, the LPDDR4X is more power efficient which is made to use more low power voltage, allowing the more battery life to our smartphone. It reduces the power consumption of the memory system by 18~20% by cutting output driver power (I/O VDDQ voltage) by 55%, from 1.1 V to 0.6 V. Other features of LPDDR4 remain the same, allowing extreme memory bandwidth to supply the heavy demands of many core CPU and GPU subsystems in modern smartphone SoCs.

The new LPDDR4X standard is an optional extension intended to offer product designers options for further power reduction as well as on-die termination (ODT) flexibility. In LPDDR4X, the I/O supply voltage (VDDQ) is reduced from 1.1 V to 0.6 V. This 40% voltage reduction leads to much lower power usage when sending and receiving data from the memory device, which is particularly beneficial for smartphones and other handheld devices. In addition, LPDDR4X supports easily programmable command bus termination for high memory density systems.
The new LPDDR4X RAM is not only the best for its increase in DRAM performance but also reduce its power consumption due to lower I/O voltages (and come in a smaller form-factor). At the same time, more products within the mainstream application processor lines are supporting the latest-generation memory solutions. The developments, together with advances in DRAM manufacturing processes, have accelerated the pace of market adoption for LPDDR4 and its variant LPDDR4X.
