Hello Mi Fans,
After the launch of the #CameraBeast Redmi Note 5 Pro and #TheAllRounder Redmi Note 5, Xiaomi again surprised us by launching #CompactPowerHouse Redmi 5 on 14th March, which is the successor of the most popular and compact device of 2017, Redmi 4. In this thread, we will see how this Redmi 5 is the rightful successor of Redmi 4 in every aspect. So let's see what has changed.

Design and Display
One of the most important change with the Redmi 5 is its Design and Display. Xiaomi has started a trend of full-screen display with slim bezels in the budget segment. Redmi 5 is equipped with a 5.7-inch screen with a HD+ resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels which is a massive upgrade from its predecessor Redmi 4. The pixel density is about 282 PPI with a contrast ratio of 1000:1. It has a 2.5D rounded corners grips to protect the screen and also Reinforced corners which will protect from small drops.
Redmi 5 has an aspect ratio of 18:9 which gives you a wider view for better gaming performance and also for displaying more content than 16:9 aspect ratio devices. In case of the Redmi 4, the phone came with a standard 5-inch 1280 x 720 HD screen and an aspect ratio of 16:9. The pixel density is about 296 PPI with a contrast ratio of 1000:1.
Redmi 5 comes with an on-screen navigation button like Redmi Note 5 Pro and you also can enable gesture control for navigations which will make your multi task more simple. Redmi 5 is the slimmest device ever in Redmi series smartphones, with the 7.7 mm thickness and with rounded corner design gives an ergonomically curved for better hands feels just like a 5.2-inch device and it is 11% lesser in thickness compare to the Redmi 4.

The Redmi 5 has a 12MP (ƒ/2.2) shooter with LED flash. The primary sensor uses 1.25μm pixel size. These large pixels actually helps in taking nice photos in low-light conditions compared to the camera on the Redmi 4. It supports 1080p video recording at 30 frames per second. The sensor supports Face detection, PDAF, Low light enhancement, HDR, Panorama, Burst mode. On the other hand, Redmi 4 has 13MP (ƒ/2.0) shooter with LED flash which uses 1.12μm pixel size to capture images.
In the front, the Redmi 5 has a 5MP camera with an LED selfie light ideal for taking gorgeous portraits with automatically enhanced facial feature using smart beauty 3.0., it supports 1080p video recording too whereas Redmi 4 has 5MP (ƒ/2.2) camera with no LED light. Redmi 5 is the first smartphone in the Redmi series to get an LED flashlight on Front.

Performance, Battery and Software
The most important change is #CompactPowerHouse Redmi 5 is equipped with latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 450, an octa-core chipset with eight Cortex A53 cores and clocked at 1.8GHz based on 14nm FinFET technology. The chipset also includes Adreno 506 GPU, which brings major improvement to the graphics performance along with an upgrade to hardware performance. On the other hand, Redmi 4 runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 435, octa-core chipset clocked at 1.4Ghz based on the 28nm architecture with Adreno 505 GPU. Redmi 5 seems to be a clear winner with newly improved SoC based on latest 14nm FinFET technology.
Redmi 5 comes with 3,300mAh battery, which is smaller than the 4,100mAh battery found in Redmi 4 but the Redmi 5 will last longer due to its refined user interface and battery efficient updated processor. The compact powerhouse Redmi 5 is able to run up to 31 days on standby time mode in comparison to Redmi 4 which is able to run up to 18 days on standby mode.
Redmi 5 comes with MIUI 9 on top of Android 7.1.2 while Redmi 4 came with MIUI 8 on top of Android 6.0.1 upgradable to Android Nougat.
Variants and Price
Redmi 5 comes with lots of improvements in every department compared to Redmi 4. The compact powerhouse is the most powerful and value for money smartphone in the market in terms of overall package it is providing in the budget segment. It comes in three variants :
