Hi, Mi Fans.
Today we will discuss, All about Adreno 506, which includes its performance, specs & comparison with Adreno, let’s get started

What is Adreno 506?
It is a series of graphics processing unit (GPU) semiconductor intellectual property cores, which is developed by Qualcomm and started using in a variety of their SoCs.

You might be aware that Snapdragon 625 and 626 Snapdragon 450 devices come with the Adreno 506 GPU.

The reason why should one worry about a Smartphone GPU is because it is directly responsible for the gaming and rendering performance of your Phone.

Better GPUs can run the games at a better frame rate on higher graphics settings at a better display resolution.
Earlier in Redmi 4, Snapdradon 430 was used but now in redmi 5, Snapdragon 435 with new improvement is used.

This GPU supports modern standards like Vulkan, OpenGL ES 3.1 + AE (3.2 in other sources), OpenCL 2.0 and DirectX 12 (FL 12.1, 11.1 according to Qualcomm). Furthermore, the GPU supports universal bandwidth compression (UBWC) to save memory bandwidth.

Gaming Benchmark Comparison:
Performance Comparison:

-Performance of Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 in Redmi 5
Here We Are Taking Closer Look at Snapdragon 450 in. Our impressions of the new 14nm silicon are just as positive this time around. Here The 14nm manufacturing process makes The Processor great power efficiency, Especially When Compared with eight Cortex-A53 cores, tuned for endurance, rather than performance. Even so, the cores in question can clock as high as 1.8GHz and actually pack quite a decent punch. It is better than the older and less efficient Snapdragon 430.

  • The Redmi 5 seems to chew up multi-threaded loads nearly. Since the Snapdragon 450 uses the same Adreno 506, utilized inside the Snapdragon 625 and 626. Here the difference is a small step down in clock speed of 50MHz (down from the original 650MHz).
  • Also, There are some more advantages of redmi 5 Its lower screen resolution means the GPU has to less to output the images at native resolution. This Helps us better gaming performance, Nowadays People are going far with budget smartphones like Redmi 5, Why shouldn't they go? If they are getting too better performance in very less cost.
  • Truth is, most of the mobile chipset is quick and powerful enough to accommodate and satisfying user needs, which makes power autonomy and battery efficiency the far more valuable and desirable trait to pursue. The Snapdragon 450 definitely delivers on that end.

-General Performance
  • Both the processors do fairly well in daily life performance. Both Snapdragon 450 and 430 have eight ARM Cortex-A53 cores but Snapdragon 450’s cores can go up to a higher clock frequency and that gives it an edge.
  • You will not observe any lags or issues in switching between different steps and in doing other everyday stuff.
  • The only slight difference in the performance can only be observed when you do a side by side speed test. Also as we have seen above, Snapdragon 450 ranks higher into Antutu and Geekbench 4 Benchmark. The main reason behind this is greater clock speeds and better technology used in 450.
Snapdragon 450: 9/10
Snapdragon 430: 8/10

-Gaming Performance
  • The Snapdragon 450 device will give similar gaming performance at HD+ as Snapdragon 430 devices at 720p. So if you’re wondering whether Redmi 5 does better in gaming or the Redmi 4, the answer is both perform well.
  • However, a device with HD+ display and Snapdragon 450 will easily outperform a Snapdragon 430 device with a 720p display.
  • Both the Adreno 506 and Adreno 505 GPU can handle every Android game at a decent frame rate. However, Adreno 506 Graphics Processor has a slight edge over the other.
Snapdragon 450: 9/10
Snapdragon 430: 8.5/10

-Power Efficiency
  • As the Snapdragon 450 is manufactured using the 14nm FinFET Process, it consumes less power and delivers better performance. Also, it heats less as compared to 430. You can certainly expect far better battery life with Snapdragon 450.
  • Again, the low clock rate in Snapdragon 430 ensures that it doesn’t throttle. So, Snapdragon 430 devices shouldn’t heat either but still, it cannot be compared with better fabrication process in 450.
Snapdragon 450: 10/10
Snapdragon 430:  9/10

  • Both Snapdragon 450 and 430 use the Qualcomm X9 LTE Modem which can deliver speeds up to 300 Mbps. You should expect a relatively good Internet experience with these processors.
Snapdragon 450: 9/10
Snapdragon 430: 9/10

-Price to Performance Ratio
  • Now, let’s talk about the price. Snapdragon 450 is used first time in Redmi 5, Snapdragon 430 in Redmi 3S both is dedicated to the low budget devices. For their price range, they do fairly well and are currently the best processors that smartphones OEMs can use in their upcoming phones.
  • Both Snapdragon 430 and Snapdragon 450 offers a lot at an affordable price.
Snapdragon 450: 9.5/10
Snapdragon 430: 9.5/10

  • By taking the average of all the scores, we finally arrive at these final scores of our Snapdragon 450 vs 430 comparisons.
Snapdragon 450: 9.2/10
Snapdragon 430: 8.8/10

Which one is better processor Snapdragon 450 or Snapdragon 430?
  • Snapdragon 450 is better compared to the Snapdragon 430. Snapdragon 450 also belongs to the Snapdragon 400 series based with latest 14nm FinFet technology while Snapdragon 430 is based on 28nm architecture. Both are low-budget series.
  • Both Snapdragon 450 and 430 has 8 Cortex-A53 cores but they are clocked at little higher frequency in Snapdragon 450 and hence it will result in better performance.

  • Coming to the Power efficiency, Snapdragon 450 is manufactured using the 14nm FinFET Process which is more power efficient compared to the 28nm process used in Snapdragon 430. Hence, Snapdragon 450 will consumes less power and gives longer battery life. Also, it produces less heat.
  • Now talking about the GPU, Snapdragon 450 uses Adreno 506 which is better than the Adreno 505 GPU of Snapdragon 430.
  • The last major difference is the modem, X9 LTE Modem in Snapdragon 450 gives better speeds compared to the X6 LTE Modem in Snapdragon 430.
