Using the Mi Band for the first time? Here are 11 frequently asked questions to help you get started on the Mi Band.
Q1: Why does the Mi Band need to be worn tightly?
This is to prevent the core of the Mi Band from falling off when the user is engaged in vigorous activities. If you need to remove the core from the Mi Band, all you need to do is to push the core upwards from the bottom of the strap.
Q2: Will the Mi Band strap wear out if taken on and off frequently?
Our Mi Band strap is manufactured from Dow Corning TPSiV, which provides additional flex resistance and ductility. This allows the Mi Band to be used on a day-to-day basis without being worn out easily, but be careful not to play too hard too la.
Q3: How do we charge the Mi Band?
See the charger in your package? Yep the one with the USB port on one end of the wire, and a cradle on the other end. Remove the core from your Mi Band and insert it into the cradle, with the two gold-plated connectors inserted head-in.
1) When the three indicator lights on your Mi Band start flashing in red, it means that your Mi Band is running out of battery and needs to be charged.
2) Connect the USB charger to a computer, 5V power adapter with USB port, or Xiaomi Standard UK Adapter for optimum charging performance.
3) When charging, the indicator lights on your Mi Band will flash intermittently. Once fully charged, the 3 indicator lights will stop flashing and turn green.
Q4: Why is it that a new Mi Band has low or almost no battery?
That’s because the Mi Band consumes battery when it is being stored, tested and shipped prior to being delivered to the end user. On top of that, we usually don’t recommend shipping Mi Bands with full battery capacity due to safety purposes.
Q5: How long does it take to charge the Mi Band each time?
It usually takes about 2 – 3 hours to reach full battery capacity, until all 3 indicator lights stop flashing and turn green.
Q6: What is the battery capacity of the Mi Band?
41mAh. (In case you need a reference, Mi4 has a battery capacity of up to 3080 mAh)
Q7: How long can the Mi Band last for each charging cycle?
It can last up to 30 days.
Q8: Why does my Mi Band run out of battery so quickly?
Ehhh don’t keep playing with your Mi Band la. Actually the activity that consumes most of the battery in your Mi Band is vibration. Even though the vibration motion is not strong, it does take up the most battery life (just like how the brightness of your screen display consumes the most battery in your phone).
Q9: Ermmm… My brand new Mi Band cannot charge leh. How???
First of all, keep calm ☺ Don’t worry, can fix one la… The indicator lights on your Mi Band will turn green when charging. If it doesn’t light up, you can try the following:
Try re-plugging the Mi Band core multiple times or gently shake it to see if it can be detected.
Ensure that the USB port (on your computer or other device) is functioning normally by testing it on different Mi Band charging cables.
Go to your Mi Band app > Settings (three horizontal dots at the top right corner) > My devices > Check your charging meter to see if it’s charging.

Q10: Can I use power bank to charge the Mi Band?
Mi Power Bank is primarily designed to charge phones, typically supporting a charging current output of 1A. Once the phone is fully charged, the power bank will automatically cut off the charging current to save its battery life.
On the other hand, Mi Band supports only up to 25mA charging current, which is significantly lower than a typical phone. This will cause the power bank to misinterpret as the Mi Band has already achieved full battery capacity and automatically cut off the charging current.
Q11: Do we need to charge the Mi Band for 12 hours during its first charge?
Nah, overcharging doesn’t allow the Mi Band to store excess battery. We also don’t recommend charging the Mi Band only after using up all its battery because that will affect the battery life in the long run. Finally the Mi Band features a 8mm battery, which is recognized as the industry’s top-grade thinnest battery.
