Hello, MI Fans!
Recently a new important feature has been added to the MIUI stable and beta, A Panic Button. A Panic Button is nothing but a sort of emergency number which you can dial when in distress, especially women; how it differs is instead of unlocking the phone and dialing all you need is one single click right from the lockscreen.
So lets check out how it works:
- While the phone is locked, Press the power button, which will light up the display
- Now the display is lit, Hold the power button, which will present the power menu along with the panic button at the end named "Emergency call"
- Click the "Emergency call" and it will dial the emergency number 112 without the need of entering password, unlock & then dial.

To sum it all up when phone is locked, Press power button - hold it down - click emengency call
Why it dials only 112?
It's because india adopted 112 as the one single emergency response number across the country, similar to 911 in US and 999 in UK. Already existing series of numbers like 100, 101, 102 etc. has been told to be working for a year and then soon to be integrated under one roof as single 112 eventually, read more about it here
Can i customize the number further?
Well, as the goverment made it mandatory for all smartphones sold from 2017 must have one single emergency number 112 as the panic button, which eliminates the possiblity of further customization for now.
Why call is not being connected when dialed?
Currently 112 the single emergency repsonse number isn't yet up from goverment's own end but soon it will be working. Although it requires only a working SIM card with no condition for balance call to this can be made even with the zero balance, do check with your service provider too about this for support from their end.
I can't see this feature in my phone, what to do?
Although It is mandatory for new phones only, It might be soon available to your device with updates.
That's it for now folks! What do you think about this feature, let us know more in the comments.
