[Discussion] GeoOrbital Wheel: Upgrade Your Regular Bike to Electric Bike In 60 Seconds !!

Today I'm back with yet another tech product. GeoOrbital is an electric wheel system fitted to existing bicycles by the American company GeoOrbital, Inc. GeoOrbital is an electric front wheel that instantly converts your existing bike into an e-bike. Let's see more about GeoOrbital electric wheel in this thread. So let's get started with this thread.

  • GeoOrbital is an electric front wheel that instantly converts your existing bike into an e-bike.
  • Everything needed to add electric power to your bike is included in the wheel.
  • The GeoOrbital wheel is compatible with nearly every bicycle.
  • GeoOrbital wheel's 500W Brushless DC motor will get the rider to 20 miles per hour.
  • One 4-hour charge of the 10Ah/36V battery is good for a range of 20 miles (32 km).
  • The battery packs can also be swapped easily without removing the wheel.

There is much to like about cycling. With the wind in your hair and the sun on your face, pedal power seems the perfect form of transport. The idea of getting some fresh air and exercise on your way to work also has significant appeal. Unfortunately, these idyllic visions soon shatter into tiny pieces when you first meet a hill — cycling can also be hard work. Electric bikesoffer some respite, but many are bulky beasts. One new solution is GeoOrbital, a replacement front wheel that has a compact motor and battery, instead of spokes, to provide immediate assistance.

GeoOrbital Wheel sounds like the kind of crazy invention that comes out of a shed, but this is no botched DIY job. GeoOrbital has been designed by three men who boast SpaceX and Ford among their former employers. The claim — to “make your bike electric in 60 seconds” — is very real. The Patent Pending GeoOrbital wheel is an evolution of the orbital wheel (the wheels on the TRON Motorcycles). The GeoOrbital wheel replaces a standard bicycle front wheel to turn your bike into a powerful electric bike in under 60 seconds. Everything needed to add electric power to your bike is included in the wheel.

In the case of the GeoOrbital Wheel, though, that empty space is partially occupied by a non-rotating module that contains the 500-watt brushless motor, the removable Panasonic Li-ion battery pack, and the electronics. Three arms reach out from that module to the inside of the rim, each one equipped with a rubber roller at the end. The bottom roller is powered by the motor, causing the rim to rotate around the module. Because the rollers are constantly pressing against the rim's inner surface, there's no room for a valve stem to be sticking up. As a result, the wheel has to be equipped with a foam-filled tire that doesn't require air. This means that flats aren't an issue, although there is a bit of a revolving weight penalty.

The GeoOrbital wheel comes with a flat-proof tire so you never have to worry about getting a flat or even checking tire pressure. By using a quality conventional tire and then filling it with a special hi-density foam the tire acts and weighs the same as a traditional bike tire, but you will never get a flat. The wheel installs just like any other but looks completely different. The hub is weighted to remain static within the tire, which is made from high-density foam in order to resist puncture. At 20 pounds (700cc model), weight is a concern, but the team behind the wheel says that the effect on handling has been negligible during their extensive road testing.

GeoOrbital specifically designed the GeoOrbital wheel to be secured using standard bike locks. The battery locks to the wheel with the same key that turns the wheel on. If you are especially concerned about security you can remove your wheel in under 30 seconds and take it with you. The propulsion comes from a 500-watt brushless motor, powered by a six amp-hour battery. This combination delivers a top speed of 20 miles per hour without pedaling. The range is 20 miles without effort or 50 miles with some leg power. The battery packs can also be swapped easily without removing the wheel. The chance to retro-fit electric power to your bike is very appealing, and GeoOrbital seems to be a neatly engineered solution.
