Hey Mi Fans,
During the Redmi Note 4 launch event, Commander Hugo Mentioned about Android 7.0 Nougat Preview for new All-Rounder.
We are happy to share that Nougat based MIUI 8 Global Beta ROM was released on Jan 20th for Redmi Note 4 and Nougat update will be pushed to Stable ROM after making sure that there are no bugs. If you are impatient, you might consider switching to MIUI Beta ROM, but we will not advise normal users to do so as it might have potential bugs.
In this tutorial, I will be writing a step by step guide for flashing Nougat based MIUI Global Beta on Redmi Note 4, but before proceeding kindly note that it is not very stable and may have some potential issues.
This is a fastboot ROM and to flash fastboot ROM you need to have a device with unlocked bootloader. All the devices launched after Redmi Note 3 have bootloader locked by default, so first you need to create a request for unlocking the bootloader.
For more details on unlocking bootloader kindly refer to http://en.miui.com/unlock/download_en.html
You will receive an SMS when your request for unlocking bootloader gets approved.
Things to consider before flashing ROM:
1. Make sure battery is sufficiently charge (atleast 60%).
2. Take a backup to be on safer side.
Now download the Nougat based MIUI 8 Global Beta ROM from http://bigota.d.miui.com/7.1.19/mido_global_images_7.1.19_20170119.0000.00_7.0_global_bbb1bd402f.tgz
Download Mi flash tool from http://api.bbs.miui.com/url/MiFlash and install it on your PC.
Extract the fastboot ROM, and remember the path where you have extracted it. Also note that path should not contain any blank space (there should not be any folder like New Folder), the best way is to copy it to desktop and extract to a folder and name that folder as Note_4.
Restart your PC once, at this step make sure you have taken backup of your phone and battery is at least 60% charged.
Switch off your Redmi Note 4 and after few moments enter into fastboot mode by pressing Volume down and Power Button together.
Now connect your phone to PC via USB cord.
Open Mi flash tool on your PC, at this step make sure that your device is properly connected to PC via USB.
Click on the arrow near the "Browse" button in Mi Flash Tools--> Select the "Browse" option and navigate to the FastBoot ROM folder which you want to Flash and Press "OK".
Click on refresh, your device will appear in Mi Flash Tool window if it is connected.
After you see your device appears in Mi Flash Tool. Press Flash Button to start flashing the ROM on your device.
After clicking the "Flash" option. It will take around 2-3 minutes to flash your device. When the operation is completed. You will see Progress Bar in green color.
After the completion of this operation your device will be booted automatically with Nougat Based MIUI 8 Global Beta ROM.
Hope this helps, let us know in the comments if you face any difficulty.
A big thanks to Bingo as his thread [Tutorial] How to Flash MIUI 8 Stable and Developer ROM, Step by Step Guide helped me a lot in writing this thread.
