Introduction to MIUI Security App:
MIUI is one of the coolest ROMs available which works great with MI devices. It has so many unique features that make it a perfect ROM for everyone. Security app is one of the them which looks like a simple app to clean the junk and do optimization of your phone but it has more than what you think of it. Security app is available in almost all the MIUI versions and it's getting better with every update. Let's have a look on the basic tasks Security app can perform:
1. Cleaner : It can search for junk files and cache and clean them to make your phone run faster and smoother.
2. Data Usage : You can use this option of security app to restrict apps from using your data (just like a firewall) and manage your data usage.
3. Blocklist : You can use this option to block particular numbers so that they won't be able to call you and their call will get disconnected automatically if they try to call you. You can block SMSs also with the blocklist feature.
4. Battery : This option is all about battery optimization. We will discuss about it in detail further.
5. Virus Scan : Yes, you heard it right. MIUI Security app has inbuilt virus scanner which can keep your device free from viruses and keep it safe.
6. Permission : Using this option, you can manage permissions provided to the apps installed in your phone and stop them from auto starting, accessing your camera or mic or from accessing anything which you don't want them to access without your permission.
Bonus : Security App has two small tools inbuilt which can test your Network Connection and Connection speed. Just tap over the "Connection Speed" and "Test Network" options from the MIUI Security app's home screen.
How to use the inbuilt tools of Security app : Detailed Tutorial
Well, as we have already read earlier that this is one of the tool of security app to cleanup the junk files and cache from your phone to make it faster, let's see the steps to use it.
> Launch the security app in your phone and you will see the following screen as shown in the image below.

> Tap on the cleaner and it will start scanning for the junk files and cache in your phone. Once the scan is completed, it will list the possible files and cache that can be cleaned. The best thing about cleaner tool is that it gives you the option to keep any file safe from being removed. All you need to do is to uncheck the file/folder which you don't want to clean.
> Now tap over the "Clean Up" button and it will start cleaning the trash. Once done, it will show the screen, "Finished Cleaning".
> After performing the basic cleanup, you can perform a deep clean as well, but that's need to be performed carefully beacuse a small mistake can cause data loss. To start the deep clean process, tap over "Scan" under "Deep Clean" on the page where you reach after performing the basic cleanup.
> Now the cleaner will search for duplicate photos, app data which might not be so important and keeping the space reserved uselessly, apps that are installed and files that are big in size (or videos) which you might want not to keep in your phone.

> Now go through the list carefully and check whether you actually don't want to keep anything in your phone, like app data, and tap over clean now to clean the particular files.
Isn't it easy to use the cleaner app? I know, it is. But hey, you can do some secret stuff with cleaner app too which I'll tell you at the end of the post . Let's move towards the next tool of MIUI Security App.
2. Data Usage
Suppose you have limited data and you don't want to waste data but some of the apps in your phone secretly use your data while running in the background. What would you do in that case, well, uninstalling the app might not be a good idea. Here, Security App's "Data Usage" section can help you because you can block those apps from using your data even when they are launched. You can allow them to use data either on WiFi, Mobile data or both of them. You can set data usage limit too so that if you run out of data, your main balance would be safe. Doesn't it sound cool? Let's see how can we use it.
> Open the Security app and tap over "Data Usage" option. It will open a screen as given in the screenshot below where you can see the amount of data you have used and some options.

> Now tap over "Restrict Data Usage" and it will open a screen where you can allow or disallow any app to use your data. You can set this restriction with the system apps too from the list of system apps. You will see two columns with green check mark and red cross symbol. The first column is for Mobile Data and the second is for WiFi. For example if you don't want any app to use mobile data but you want it to use WiFi data when you are connected to WiFi, you can make it red cross under Mobile Data column and green check mark under WiFi column (just tap over the symbol to change it from allow to disallow and vice-versa).
> You can see the data usage statistics app wise by tapping over "Data Usage Stats" and a screen will appear which will show which app used what amount of data, cool! For me, it's facebook which uses most of the data in my daily usage, haha!

> To set the data usage limit, tap over the "Data Usage Limit" from the "Data Usage" screen and on the next screen, tap over "Peak Data Limit".

> Now set the value of the data which you want to assign for your phone and tap OK.

> Now on the next screen, you can set the "Data Usage Warning Level" so that your phone could warn you when you reach at the deadline for your data and can set the monthly date when the data counter would reset itself etc. You can ignore data being used for any particular app too.
So after reaching the data limit set by you, Security app will show a warning and disconnect your phone from mobile data which can save your main balance from being deducted. There are still so many things which you can explore and mentioning each and everything about security app will make this article longer which might be a headache for people who are lazy in reading.
Blocklist can be helpful from getting rid of the irritating callers and telemarketers etc. You can add their number in your blocklist and stop them from calling or messeging you. You can still see the messages and numbers of blocked callers in your blocked call history and blocked message list but you won't be disturbed when they call ot text you because phone won't make any sound or vibration if you recieve any call or message from any blocked number. Let's see how to use this feature of MIUI Security app.
> Open Security app and tap over "Blocklist" to open the following screen as shown in the image. You will see two sections, "SMS" and "Calls" which will show the list of blocked SMSs and calls.

> There is no need to go deeper in creating rules etc because I'll tell you the easiest way to add any number(s) in your blocklist and set whether you want to block SMSs, Calls or both form the blocked numbers. What you need to do is just tap on the gear icon from the top right corner of the blocklist screen and it will open blocklist settings. Tap over "Blocked Numbers" and you will see the list of numbers you have blocked. If you still haven't blocked any numbers, the list will be empty.
> From the bottom, tap over the + symbol that has the caption "Add". Now you should see three options, "Add phone number", "Add prefix" and "Add contacts".

> Now tap over add phone number and type the number which you want to add in your blocklist. Just under that select whether you want to block SMS, Calls or both and then tap OK.

> Now you can see the blocked number listed in your blocklist and if you get any call from the blocked number, that will be rejected automatically. If you want to unblock the number, tap over the number from the blocklist and tap "Unblock", simple!
Tip: You might have noticed that most of the telemarketing calls start with "140" prefix which disturb us anytime if we have not opted for DND service. So here is an easy way to reject all the telemarketing calls with a simple rule. In your blocklist app, select "Add Prefix" and put 140 as prefix and add it in your blocklist. That's it. You can live your life in peace.
This tool in Security app is used to analyze and fix the battery issues and keep the battery healthy. You can perform some tweaks for a long lasting battery too. Let's see.
> Open your security app and tap over "Battery" and it will open the following screen.

> Tap over "Cool Down" or "Fix" to resolve the causes and once finished, it will tell you the increased amount in your battery backup. From the main screen, you can turn on the battery saver to increase your battery backup by automatically killing the background processes. You can go through the other option to research more about the battery tool as I already mentioned that I couldn't be able to cover all the details in this single post.

With permission manager you can manage the permissions provided to apps such as accessing your location, accessing camera and accessing contact list etc. Everyone is concerned about privacy and this feature of Security app helps us in managing our privacy by restricting permissions allowed to apps. Let's see how can we do it:
> Open Security app and tap over "Permissions" and then following screen with some options will appear.

Now you might be waiting to know what were the things which I wanted to share at the end of the post, here we go...
Hidden Tips About MIUI Security App:
1. Changing the definitions for the cleaner tool: You should know that any cleaner app works with the support of pre-defined definitions which decide what to look for to be cleaned. In MIUI Security app's cleaner, there are two definitions, "Clean Master" and "Tencent". So if you want a better cleaning experience for your phone, you may switch between these two definitions and to do so, follow the steps below:
> Open Security app and from the top right corner, tap over the settings icon and the following screen will be there.

> Now tap over "Cleaner" and from the next screen, tap over "Definitions".

> You will now get a menu to select either of the definitions, select any of them and perform your cleanup.

2. Enabling multiple virus definitions for the strong virus protection: MIUI's virus scanner has got better with new updates and you know, it can scan your device for viruses using the three popular virus definitions, "AVL", "Tencent" and "Avast" that was added recently with MIUI 8. So it's always better to have triple protection for virus scans. To enable all the three definitions, follow the steps:
> Open Security app and tap on the settings icon from top right corner.
> Now tap over "Virus Scan" and tap over "Definitions" from the next screen.

2017-02-09 12:53:16 Upload
> Select all the 3 definitions and then tap OK.

That's it. Your virus scanner is much stronger now and you don't need any antivirus seperately.
I hope you guys liked my tutorial and I tried my best to keep the things simple and interesting in this article. Keep rocking with MI and have a blessed day ahead.
