Hello, Mi Fans!

Friends, Microsoft just released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17704 (Redstone 5) to Windows Insiders in the Fast and Skip Ahead Rings. Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17704 comes with a huge amount of improvements and new features that include ones for Microsoft Edge, new Skype experience, improved Diagnostic Data Viewer, and more. So, without wasting time, let's see what's new in this latest version.

Microsoft Edge Is Getting A Big Update:
  • Microsoft is introducing a new Edge “BETA” icon that will only be seen in Insider preview builds.
  • Microsoft is also bringing Fluent Design's new depth effect on the tab bar on Edge browser.

  • Microsoft Edge settings panel is being revamped, and it's now easier to navigate. Microsoft says that the Settings panel is redesigned to match the look and feel of Edge hub, and it breaks Settings out into subpages by category, for a quicker navigation.

  • The Redesigned menu also comes with common commands like “New tab” and “New window”. Microsoft is allowing more customization than ever, that means you'll be able to customize the icons that appear in the new Microsoft Edge toolbar.

And last but not the least, you can finally control whether media can play automatically. This setting is under Advanced Setting - Media autoplay.

New Skype Experience:

Microsoft is today revamping the Skype UWP app experience on Windows 10. The new app offers improved calling experience, allows you to take snapshots of important moments within a call, customize the themes and much more.  Here are some changes in details:

  • Best in class calling experience – We’ve added several new calling features to make Skype’s calling experience even better than before.
  • Flexible group call canvas – Customize your group call experience and decide who appears in the main call canvas.  Simply drag and drop people between the call canvas and the overflow ribbon to select who you want to focus on.
  • Take snapshots – Use snapshots to capture images of important moments within a call.  Snapshots make sure you never forget important memories like your grandkid’s funny antics or crucial information like the content that’s been screen shared during a meeting.
  • Easily start screen sharing – We’ve made sharing your screen during calls even easier.  Look for the ability to share your screen with the top level call controls.
  • New layout – Based on your feedback, we’ve made your contacts easier to access and view
  • Customizable themes – Choose a color and theme for your Skype client through your application settings.
  • And much more – Improvements to our media gallery, notifications panel, @mentions experience and more!

Task Manager Improvements:

  • Microsoft is updating the Task Manager with two new columns "Power usage" and "Power usage trend" in the Processes tab.
  • Microsoft says that the new Task Manager will show the energy impact of the running process, and it's a useful feature to find the apps and services using maximum power.
  • The Power usage trend column provides a power usage trend over 2 mins for each running apps and services.

Typing Insights:

  • Windows 10 now comes with Typing Insights, which will show you the stats about how the AI technology has been helping you type with efficiency, and apparently, it works only on devices with the software keyboard.
  • You can go to Settings  Devices  Typing and click on “View typing insights” link to see them. Basically, it shows stats about features such as text predictions.

Privacy Improvements:

  • Microsoft is fully committed to the privacy and security of the users, and the company is introducing an improved Windows Diagnostic Data Viewer that lets you understand when your data is collected and much more.
  • It also lets you see the Common Data, Device Connectivity and Configuration, certain browsing history and much more.

Security Improvements:

This build allows you to enable a new security feature called "Block suspicious behaviors". When enabled, it will enable the Windows Defender Exploit Exploit Guard to all users.

See Your Videos Better Outside:

  • There’s a new viewing mode for you to try out, designed to improve the visibility of your video when you are in a very bright environment. This feature uses the light sensor on your device to detect your ambient light and automatically adjusts your video accordingly.
  • To turn it on, navigate to Settings  Apps  Video playback, and turn on “Adjust video based on lighting”.

Font installation For Non-Admin Users:

  • Have you ever wanted to use your own fonts from your account on a shared school or work PC, but couldn’t because you didn’t have the administrator privileges required to install the fonts? Well, they've heard your frustration about this and have made some changes.
  • In the Windows 10 1803 feature update, Microsoft introduced fonts in the Microsoft Store.

  • To enable that capability, they needed to make changes deep in Windows to allow a font to be installed for a specific user rather than system-wide. That’s why no admin action is needed when fonts acquired in the Store are installed.
