Hey, When i saw this post. I was really happy that MI is coming up with these type of creative things which helps an independent artist to grow up in his field.
Before going to my story, A small thanks to MI for this opportunity.
I'm 22 year's old.
To begin with, It was 2016. I was in my second year of my BCA (Bachelor Degree in Computer Applications). I was into the college without an interest. I always wanted to be an animation artist. But, being an indian you don't get to opt what you like. So, as per my parents wish i did the BCA. But, to my surprise we had a film making club in our college. Many used to do short films and screen it in our college (Where most of the films were of love and friendship). But i always had a thought of VFX and animations. So, the first step where my passion begins is here. I and my friend (Emmanuel) both sat together, discussed and came up with an VFX based short film. But, to begin with we need money. So, we started designing visiting card to others, forging college ID cards and lot more stuff in media section to get more money to invest. Finally we made an Rs.8,000 and we started our movie. Which finished by 2months of time and we released in our college. Which made an box office of Rs.12,000. There we had a hope of light.
Later, i wrote an another drama story titled as 'A Film' and started shooting for it. We had to spend more than 8months of time in that as we had simultaneously our academics going on. When it hit You Tube. We had 3.5k views with mixed reviews. Yes, i know it wasn't a feature movie but it was my movie. Many people even said it is a crap. But i believed it's a good story.
As time flew. It was a one year passed. I finished my college and got placed in Infosys as a software engineer. I was always dreaming myself being in the director's chair when in was sitting in my office chair.
It was an another routine day, but saw a post in Facebook which mentioned a film festival was conducted by JSS college in Mysore. I applied my 'A Film' for that contest hoping at least the jury members would point my mistakes. So, that i can correct myself. I attended that festival. There were 6 films which was screened and mine was one of it. After the end of the screening. A well known kannada director was one of the jury of the show, who walked to the stage and asked "Can i know who is the director of 'A film' ?" I stood up, the whole auditorium stared at me. He asked me to walk the stage and i did. When i reached, he quoted " Short films are the stage, where you can experiment and today i saw many films. But, the best film i ever saw in that genre is' A film' " and tapped at my back. I still couldn't forget that. Then that day i won the Best director award. After that i had a confidence, i never listened to the negative comments and started applying to many more film festival and won many more awards.
Today i have 13 awards in film making and soon going to start my first feature movie.
All i want to hear is an applause, when the below credit comes on the screen.
' A Film by Ajith Kumar '
Thank you for witnessing.
