Hello Mi Fans..!!!
Welcome to another session on the WhatIf?Series. The series mainly targets new technological innovations on a smartphone which makes you think off if it was there in your device.
Today let's talk about Pop up-camera and how cool if your device had one...
Pop Up Camera setup :
Pop up camera setup is one of the newest innovations by smartphone manufacturers that have made quite an impact on smartphone markets. The decade has witnessed the greatest trends of different smartphone innovation which also includes in the increase in display size. But the phone size was quite an issue by increasing the display size. Smartphone markets especially India has very little interest in larger phones and tabs are of not much interest.
To overcome this, smartphone manufacturers started to increase the display size keeping the total phone size thereby increasing the screen to body ratio.
As the years go by the innovation made the screen to body ratio higher and higher. Regular phone size with a bigger display and very thin bezels and chin become the trend. One of the latest and probably the best as of now is by using a pop-up camera. The bezels were large before due to the earpiece and the camera which are inevitable components. The earpiece was tinned and the camera was installed as a pop-up one leaving the smartphone no need to have a chin or bezel. This makes the device with a very high screen to body ratio.
Other Front cam setups:
1. Conventional Bezel camera setup :
This was the trend with the front camera for a long time. But as time passed, the bezel thickness did decrease but it was maintained in such a way that it could accommodate the front cam and other sensors. Even though the latest of these editions like the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro looks sleek, it wasn't quite satisfying as it still could manage lesser screen to body ratio.
2. Notch Camera Setup :
This setup was the next innovation in the camera setup. Here a notch is maintained in place of the bezel itself which contained the camera and other components. The trend continued for quite a while but it was causing problems for gamers as well as in multimedia previews. It was demonstrated on Redmi Note 6 Pro, Redmi 6 Pro, Poco F1 and more. It increased the screen to body ratio but still had some issues.
3. Dot notch or button type front camera setup :
This setup is one of the latest setups which was ruling the market before the pop-up setup kicked in. It was very sleeky in looks and increased the screen to body ratio to very high as almost 90%. The devices such as the Redmi Note 7 Pro, Redmi Note 7S, Mi A3 are some examples.
