Hello Mi Fans,
Xiaomi India is celebrating its 5th anniversary and launching some cool new products on popular demand. One such product is the Mi Water TDS Tester which was launched on the 23rd of July and started its crowdfunding for Rs. 349.
Mi Water TDS Tester, as the name itself, defines that it is a water quality tester. It is an essential, easy to manage and very useful device for the systematic monitoring of water quality. You can test the water at your home in order to ensure the necessity of a Water Purifier. It is IPX6 waterproof.
The TDS tester can be used to detect the filtration effect of water purifiers. The TDS value of tap water reduces substantially after going through a water purifier’s reverse osmosis process.
Externally, the device is similar to an electronic thermometer. But except for the temperature, it is able to measure the content of heavy metals, organic materials and salinity of water, thus ensuring its overall purity.

On the top, you will find a battery compartment in which you have to place 2 x 1.5V batteries.
At the bottom, you will find the sensor to test the quality of the water, just place it inside the water.
You will see a Digital Display and a button to switch on/off the TDS tester.
And the opposite side of the Display, the device name is printed in a minimal way.
What is TDS?
Total dissolved solids (TDS) is a measure of the dissolved combined content to all inorganic and organic substances present in a liquid in molecular, ionized or micro-granular suspended from. It indicates how many milligrams of dissolved solids are dissolved in 1 liter of water, in milligram per liter (mg/L) or ppm, organic substances, and insoluble particles that pass through the filter.
Working of TDS Tester?
1. Remove the cap, fill it with water to be tested at 2/3, and turn on the tester.
2. Wait for about 3-4 seconds until the reading is stabilized.
Note: When the TDS value is more than 999, x 10 will be displayed to help represent the value.
3. After use, dry off the water on the tip of the tester, install the cap, and turn it off.
I differentiated the ppm or mg/L of tap water as well as purified water, and the results are below:
As there is no major difference between Tap Water and Purified Water so I don’t have to use Water Purifier. But for you, the ppm of water can be different.
As per Indian Standard IS 10500, the acceptable TDS limit (max) is 500 ppm or 500 mg/L for drinking water
In general, the lower the TDS value, the less solvent-based solids in the water and the purer the water.
