World's Biggest Smartphone Chip Maker Qualcomm released two New Processor Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 630. Here Is a Quick Comparison Snapdragon 660 With Snapdragon 820 and Snapdragon 821.


Snapdragon 660

Starting with the Snapdragon 660, this mobile platform is the successor to Qualcomm’s existing 653 model. There are a couple of notable changes between these chipsets, the first of which is the move from a 28nm process down to a much more efficient 14nm node. Secondly, Qualcomm has introduced its Kryo 260 cores in its latest processor, switching things up for the octa-core ARM Cortex-A72 and A53 big.LITTLE combination seen in its predecessor.



Qualcomm hasn’t spilled the beans on exactly what makes up its Kryo 260 core, but it’s my suspicion that we’re looking at a similar Built on ARM Cortex Technology license that the company used for the Kryo 280, with some inhouse tweaks and a custom silicon layout. What we do know is that Kryo 260 comes in a familiar 4+4 octa-core arrangement, featuring four larger cores clocked at 2.2GHz with 1MB of L2 cache, while the little cores have their own 1MB L2 cache and are clocked at 1.8GHz.








Snapdragon 820
The new 14nm Snapdragon 820 has a completely different architecture to its predecessor, the 810. It’s comprised of the X12 LTE modem, Kryo CPU, Adreno 530 GPU, Hexagon DSP, and Spectra ISP.

The 64-bit Kryta CPU is one of the bigger changes and will reportedly offer twice the performance of the 810.


The CPU has a maximum 2.2GHz clock speed and is quad-core, not octa-core. Qualcomm claims the reduced number of cores won’t adversely affect performance, as Android, and the majority of its apps, still aren’t optimised, nor demanding enough to need octa-core muscle.
he Adreno 530 GPU is, on paper, similarly impressive and according to Qualcomm will offer “40 per cent better performance than the 810." As an added element of futureproofing, it’ll also include support for the recently unveiled Vulkan API as well as the more common OpenGL 3.1 used on most current Android games.


For those not in the know, Vulkan was previously known as the “Next Generation OpenGL Initiative” and is designed to make it easier for developers to make great-looking games. It already has massive support from big names in the games industry, including Valve.


Finally, the 820's X12 LTE modem will further boost performance by adding support for Cat.12 LTE speeds.



Snapdragon 821


The Snapdragon 821 is Qualcomm’s first HMP system using its own Kryo cores, however it has used HMP before in processors like the Snapdragon 810 which used four Cortex-A57 cores plus four Cortex-A53 cores. Qualcomm still uses ARM’s big.LITTLE system for other processors in its range including the Snapdragon 652 which uses four Cortex-A72 cores plus four Cortex-A53 cores.
