Hello Mi Fans!
Recent updates of MIUI astounded us with many features and one of them was private notifications. Although perfect, that feature had one little prerequisite that particular app needs be locked via app lock in order to hide the notification content on the lockscreen. What If you don’t want to lock the app and still want to hide the content on notification just on lockscreen? If you are looking for the answer to this question then hop in and read the steps to know how to accomplish that as MIUI Global Beta ROM just introduced this feature recently.

How to get it in Global Beta ROM:
  • Open settings - lock screen & password - advanced settings
  • Click 'on lock screen'
  • Select 'hide sensitive content'

Now all the notification on the lockscreen will have their content hidden.

How to get it in Stable ROM
Although it is expected to be introduced soon in stable ROM too, if you are eager to get your hands on the feature then use this shortcut method for now

Step 1
  • Install application named “QuickShortcutMaker” or any other shortcut maker of your choice which lets you create shortcuts on homescreen for activities and apps.

Step 2
  • Under activities, open activities of ‘settings’ app.
  • Scroll & find activity named ‘com.android.settings.notification.RedactionSettingsStandalone”
  • Create shortcut for it on homescreen

Note:
For some reason searching with keywords won’t display this activity so it is advised to rather scroll through the list of activities (Don’t sigh!)
Creating shortcut is recommended to quickly change the setting, when needed.

Step 3
  • Open freshly created shortcut and select “Hide sensitive notification content”

That’s it! Now whenever your device is locked all the notification content will be hidden without locking the related apps and unlocking the device will show the content normally.
Thanks to lavnidhi & luvxiaomi for helping in testing on stable ROM!

FAQ
What is the benefit of this over private notifications?
You don’t need to lock the app separately and unlocking the screen will show notifications normally.

How do I enable lockscreen notifications for apps?
Go to settings - notifications & status bar - app notifications - app - enable lockscreen notifications, also check app specific settings once.

Can I select the list of apps for only which I want to hide the content?
No, for all apps for which you enabled lockscreen notifications the content will be hidden on loskscreen and on lockscreen notification shade.

How do I wake up my display for each notification I receive?
Go to settings - lockscreen & password - wake lockscreen for notifications - enable it.

Can I uninstall QuickShortcutMaker after this?
Yes, you can and it won’t remove the created shortcuts.
