Smart Watch! The whole meaning of the word is hidden in the name itself! A watch which is smarter than normal watches! Smarter, as in it can do many more things instead of just showing time. Anyway, take a deep breath because it's gonna be fun reading this thread! So are you ready??
What is a Smart Watch?
It is a computerised wristwatch with functionality that goes beyond timekeeping. Most of them function as portable media players, with FM radio and playback of digital audio and video files via a Bluetooth or USB headset. Some models also called 'watch phones', feature full mobile phone capability, and can make or answer phone calls or text messages.
Still not able to understand? Let me explain you with a simpler definition instead! So, It is a device which can perform many more other tasks than just showing time. You can play music, you can even click pictures, you can call, message and many more things. Everything is now on your wrist!
Actually, Your smartwatch is an extension of your phone. Let's suppose, you're at dinner with your special ones and you feel a vibration in your pocket. Instead of automatically pulling your phone out of your pocket, you can instead tilt your wrist and see whether it's your Boss calling or a newsletter from a store you visited a long time ago. It actually lets you decide which incoming information warrants your attention without pulling out your phone.
How do Smart Watches Work?
And if you are fitness concerned person and you want to keep track of your health, a growing number of smartwatches have built-in fitness features, such as a pedometer or heart rate monitor which can help in tracking your daily activities.
Many of them have a touchscreen, rechargeable battery and graphical display. Its feature varies from a smartwatch to smartwatch, but calculations, translations, game-playing, controlling via app what music is playing on your smartphone.
Most have an electronic visual display, either back-lit LCD or OLED. Some use transflective or electronic paper, to consume less power. Most have a rechargeable battery and many have a touchscreen. Peripheral devices may include digital cameras, thermometers, accelerometers, altimeters, barometers, compasses, GPS receivers, tiny speakers, and SD card.
Now coming to software part, it may include digital maps, schedules and personal organisers and many other things. The watch may communicate with external devices such as sensors, wireless headsets, or a heads-up display. Like computers, it may collect information from internal or external sensors and it may control, or retrieve data from other instruments or computers. It may support wireless technologies like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS.
