Recently, they announced in Beijing, China, the incoming Xiaomi Mi 5C, their new smartphone powered by their very own first in-house processor, the Surge S1. It was in mid-2015 when we first heard that Xiaomi wais engineering its first own chips and through this, Xiaomi reachedmakes a landmark by being the fourth smartphone company in the world to build its own System on Chip (SoC), along withaside from Samsung, Apple, and Huawei.|
They first announced it in their event in China where they worked this processor for 28 months with Pinecone, a subsidiary that Xiaomi used to develop and research the processor. Based on report of engadget.com, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun stated that “Pinecone finished its first chip design on July 25th the following year, and it received the first sample chip on September 19th. Then on the 24th, his team made the first phone call using the chip's modem, followed by a successful screen boot-up two nights later.”.
