Hello Mi Fans!
MIUI is an Android based skinned OS which is not only popular with Mi device users but also as a Custom ROM. Intuitive features and user friendly UI makes of one of the best skinned OS and with every flash sales we have more and more new MIUI users. Every version of MIUI has its own charm and we know a specific version of MIUI with its unique features. This thread aims at providing a quick walk through on those MIUI features which are not highlighted much but they do exist and you will be surprised to know them. Those users who have a longtime using MIUI would be familiar with these features.
1. Timed Message
It is one of the cool features of MIUI. You can send a timed message without using any 3rd party app. Just got to Messaging App> Compose> Click on ‘+’ on the left bottom corner> Timed> Now Set Date and Time> OK> Type Message > Select SIM to send message> Send!
2. Contacts Widget for Speed Dial
Certain contacts which are frequently used by you can be set as speed dial contact widgets. Pinch inwards on homescreen> Widgets> Contact> Select contact. The contact will appear as an icon on the home screen.
3. Desktop mode for browsing using MIUI Browser
You can browse a website in desktop mode using native MIUI browser. This gives you a complete desktop experience. Go to Browser> Settings> Advanced> User Agent String> Desktop
4. Checklist feature in Notes App
Notes app gives you a checklist feature in which you can cancel out the items from a list you do not require. It is a very handy feature to manage routine tasks without forgetting. Go to Note App> Create New Note> Click on Check button > It will create a radio button at the beginning of the word/phrase which you can cancel out.
5. Set Data Usage Limit
According to your data plans you purchase, you can set a data limit which can track how much data has been consumed and how much is left over. Go to Security App> Date Usage>Set data limit for SIM 1or 2.
6. Pinch out to view more details of app notifications
Under the notification shade, you can select a notification from an app and pinch out to see more details about the notifications. Works with many apps and you don’t need to open the app to check your notifications.
7. FTP server in MIUI Explorer
MIUI default file ‘Explorer’ gives you an option to share files wirelessly via FTP mode. Go to Explorer> FTP> Start FTP service> Input the FTP address in your desktop browser and hit enter. You can now view files of your device on your PC and download them wirelessly. For this feature to work you need a WiFi connection.
8. Swipe Left on Lockscreen to open Camera AppWe have a very cool feature on MIUI to start Camera App from Lockscreen itself. Just swipe left on the Lockscreen and you can start Camera App without unlocking your device. This would ensure that you capture every moment without wasting time to unlock and device and then start your Camera App.
9. Merge Duplicate Contacts
After restoring your Contacts backup sometimes you encounter duplicate contacts. You can merge your duplicate contacts without wasting time and deleting each duplicate. Simply go to Contacts> Settings> Organize contacts> Merge Duplicate Contacts>Merge. The system will first search duplicate contacts and gives you an option which contacts you need to merge. Check those which you want to merge and then click merge.
10. Tap to share WiFi password
Sharing is caring! You can now easily share the password of WiFi network you are connected to with your friends just by tapping the name of WiFi network you are connected to. A pop-up with QR code will be displayed on your screen and one has to scan this QR code with scanner app on his/her device. The password of the network will be revealed after scanning the QR code.Suggested Reading:
