What Is IP ( Ingress Protection or International Protection)
The full name of IP is Ingress Protection or International Protection.
IP codes are a standard set forth by the InternationalElectrotechnical Commission(IEC).
The IP rating system is a classification system showing the degree of protection from Solid objects and Liquids.
it classifies the degrees of protection provided against the intrusion of solid objects (including
body parts like hands and fingers), dust, accidental contact, and water in electrical enclosures. The standard
aims to provide users more detailed information than vague marketing terms such as waterproof.
What we understand from this number
● The first number refers to the protection against solid objects,mostly solid objects means Dust
● The second number refers to the protection against Liquids.
The following two table gives the protection description
◆ IP First Number - Protection Aginst Solid Objects
◆IP Second Number - Protection against liquids
Above information about the each number , Then how can we understand what the IP67 or IP68 means.
Take a example of IP22
"IP22 is protected against insertion of fingers and will not be damaged or become unsafe during a specified test in which it is exposed to vertically or nearly vertically dripping water."
IP22 are typical minimum requirements for the design of electrical accessories for indoor use.
Lets look into each IP Ratings
But most of the flagship device use IP67 Or IP68. And This two is also a maximum Protection.
What IP67 Do?
IP67 affords the highest level of protection against dust and lint (represented by the first digit 6) and immersion protection of up to 1 meter (or about 3 feet) of freshwater for 30 minutes (represented by the second digit 7).
What IP68 Do?
IP68 Produce higest level of protection against dust (represented by the first digit 6) and immersion protection of up to 1 to 1.5 meter but exact Depth will be told by manufacturer company (represented by the second digit 7).
Can you swim with it ?
Now here’s the tricky part. The IP67 certification allows for 1m submersion for 30 minutes. So, in theory taking the smartphone with IP67 ir 68 Certified for a quick dip, perhaps to take underwater photos shouldn’t be a problem, right?
Well that’s not really the case. The IP tests were conducted under lab conditions while the phone was in standby mode, so there’s a much greater chance it won’t stand up as well as you attempt to take pictures of swimming pool shenanigans.
Also swimming pool have the nasty chemicals they use to mask the pee in swimming pools Or contend with salt water in the ocean.
With that in mind, you’re probably best following the manufacturers’ warnings and not swimming with the phone exposed.
What else to avoid?
So Mi Band 2 is IP67 rated! So lets take Mi Band 2 as a example.
1.Dropping your Mi Bamd 2 or subjecting it to other impacts.
2.Submerging your Mi Band 2 in water for long periods of time.
3.Swimming or bathing with your Mi Band 2
4.Exposing your Mi Band 2 to pressurized water or high velocity water, for example, showering, water skiing, wake boarding, surfing, jet skiing, and so on.
5.Wearing your Mi Band 2 in a sauna or steam room.
So Don't Do this types of use for a long time.
The basic and most important conclusion is Use your IP Rated Device As per the Manufacturer Limit, And also follow manufacturer warning! Because company test the device at lab.
