The camera is placed on the top left side of the back followed by a flashlight and a fingerprint sensor placement as on other Redmi series devices. The seam on the back makes it look attractive and gorgeous.
On the left, there's a sim tray slot which has 2 SIM slots + 1 dedicated memory card slot which can hold 2 nano-SIMs and 1 memory card. This is something unique about this device and it is a very good feature to have additional storage. The thickness of Redmi Y1 is just 7.7mm which makes it very compact and manageable for single-handed use.
On the right, you can find volume rockers and lock/power key. This is more or less the same button placement as on other Xiaomi devices.
On the top, there is a 3.5mm audio jack followed by an IR blaster and a secondary microphone for noise reduction.
On the bottom, there's a microphone, micro USB port and speaker grills. The bottom of Redmi Y1 is symmetric in design and looks bold and stylish.
Looking at the camera, the Redmi Y1 offers a 16 MP front camera for lovely and attractive selfies with soft-toned selfie-light that enhances your complexion and helps you take breathtaking selfies even in low light. It is also equipped with Beautify 3.0 with 36 smart beautify profiles that bring out the natural beauty and makes you look beautiful. Coming to performance, Redmi Y1 features Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 octa-core processor with 3/4 GB of RAM which gives quick and smooth performance even in gaming. Snapdragon 435 supports rich, stunning graphics with optimum speed and power efficiency on your mobile device. It is even optimized for longer battery lifespan with the help of system-level MIUI optimisations and can offer up to 10 hours of video playback, 12 hours of gaming, and 21 hours of reading. So to check the battery in actual usage condition, I tried out different scenarios. Here is the battery history after moderate usage-
From the battery graph, it is clear that it can actually be used for more than 2 days with 8 hours and 39 mins of Screen On Time (SOT) in a single charge (moderate usage). How cool is that! A single charge and two days battery backup. Now let's move forward and try the heavy usage. Check out the results below!
