Let us dive into how to get the best of it.
About Notification Dots
These are small overlays for the apps where a small dot appears over the app whose notification is pending. These have a different color scheme for every app and being displayed on the top of the app icon. You can long press an app to see the Notification Pending in it and it has a similar menu like a status bar with smaller icons below the summed up Notifications. You can also clear a Pending Notification by sliding it left or right from the menu. There are also some handy features like New Conversation or a contact name on top for a Quick Glance.
