Hello Mi Fans
As you all know Xiaomi India has gifted us with Redmi Note 5, Redmi Note 5 Pro and Mi TV 4 on February 14th. On the very first sale of a newly launched smartphones, Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro, Xiaomi India sold more than 3Lakh+ units on mi.com and Flipkart which means that one lakh units very sold per minute. I have been using the Redmi Note 5 4GB+64 GB variant for past week and I thought of sharing a small review of my own usage experience.

Redmi Note series always comes with classy specs and at a budget friendly price. Redmi Note 5 comes with higher specifications such as a wider screen, higher processor & chipset and larger battery. Let's see the highlighted specs.

Main Highlights

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor
  • 3GB/4GB RAM
  • 5.99-inch Full HD+ IPS display
  • 32GB/64GB expandable storage, via microSD (up to 128GB)
  • 12-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash
  • 5-megapixel front camera with LED Flash
  • Dual-SIM
  • 4G LTE
  • WiFi, Bluetooth
  • GPS/A-GPS/GLONASS, Fingerprint scanner
  • Android Nougat with MIUI 9
  • 4000mAh battery

Appearance
Xiaomi has tried something very different this time for Redmi Note 5, the design Looks like the Redmi Note 4, with a taller display. In terms of the screen, Redmi Note 5 is having a screen ratio of 18:9, which is a big trend these days. The screen looks very wide with very thin bezels. Screen size is also fairly large compared to previous models. It's having a 5.99 inches screen combined with IPS display panel and has a resolution of Full HD + 1920 x 2160 pixels and display density is 403 pixels per inch, making it look sharp and clear when playing videos and games and when displaying multimedia content.

On the front, the selfie camera, LED-flash for the selfie and proximity sensor are placed. On the bottom, the capacitive button is replaced with on-screen buttons which is something new in Redmi Note series. The Redmi Note 5 is having Corning Gorilla Glass protection so it is safe from scratches and the device size around of 158.5 mm, 75.5 mm width and 8.1 mm thickness and weighs 180 grams weighing, it is bit heavy which is a sign of good build quality, one of the things that make it heavy is the 4000 mAh battery.

While at the rear, the aluminum material makes the smartphone feel very sturdy build-quality and spots a 12-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash and a fingerprint scanner right below it. The top and bottom strips of the rear of the phone is made of plastic to give the phone better signal reception. with. The USB charging port is on the bottom, with the two speaker grilles flanking it.

The power button and volume rocker are located on the right side of the phone
On the left side, Dual Sim Hybrid slot is placed
The 3.5mm jack & IR Sensor are located on the top of the phone
The Speaker Grills, Mic and USB port are located at the bottom of the device

Performance

Speaking about performance Redmi Note 5 is powered by Qualcomm MSM8953 Snapdragon 625 that has proven to be the most power-efficient Soc without reducing performance when used heavy work such as gaming to multitasking. Thanks to Octa-core processor 2.0 GHz Cortex A-53 and GPU Adreno 506 playing heavy games that is almost 2GB in size is still working smoothly, even while chatting all at once. In addition, it is equipped with 801.11 b/g/n WiFi with
Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, and compass. Then for connectivity, there is dual-SIM Hybrid type, 4G LTE network, then there is also a WiFi connection, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and Infrared.

Graphics side of Adreno 506 GPU is powerful enough to handle multitasking work and run a variety of heavy games.  Performance is also supported again by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory, but Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is also provided in a rather cheap version with 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal memory. Unfortunately for the placement of microSD slot, this phone uses Hybrid slot, so have to sacrifice SIM 2 slot for expanding up to 128GB. As we’re already quite familiar with the capabilities of the SD 625 so let's move to next topic.

Camera
Now we can continue to the camera, As for the main camera Redmi Note 5 is equipped with 12MP resolution camera equipped with f / 2.2 aperture and sensor size of 1.25 μm, along with PDAF technology followed by low light enhancement, HDR, Panorama, Burst mode, Face recognition, Real-time filters. Photos taken with good lighting were pretty good, exhibiting good color reproduction and detail. Both the front camera and rear camera are equally equipped LED Flash. It is capable of capturing good images even in low light conditions.

Battery
Redmi Note series is famous for its jumbo battery.Redmi Note 5 comes with 4000 mAh non-removable battery with a difference with its predecessor, the battery type Li-Po is no longer Li-Ion. With a 4000mAh battery and a relatively power efficient processor, the Redmi Note 5 scored 10 hours and 10 Minutes of SoT and more than a day of standby-by while connected to 4G internet.Around 24% of the Juice was still left. The phone comes with a 5V/2A fast charger (and is compatible with Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0 chargers) for fast top up. So it is a perfect smartphone which will easily last more than a day under regular usage. Kudos to SD 625's power efficiency. The battery stats are attached below.

Benchmarks
AnTuTu
The device got a score of 76879 which is really good. The Snapdragon 625 along with MIUI 9 optimizations does a pretty decent job in the performance side.

CPU-Z

Final Thoughts
The Redmi Note 5 is definitely an all-rounder. It scores very well in terms of design, battery life, and performance and for the user's who are looking for a budget smartphone with a big screen and great battery performance, the Redmi Note 5 is the perfect option. It is available in 2 variants. At a starting price of Rs. 9,999 for 3GB+32GB variant, it is the best device to get under ₹10000.

The main reason why Xiaomi is calling this Phone as All-rounder is missed out completely!!

That's because it has the most precious Radio Frequency LTE Bands which Redmi Note 4 lags.

A. It supports India specific bands. Each SIM slots comprises of 4G with the following band specification:
LTE: LTE TDD-LTE B41 (2535-2655MHz); LTE FDD B1.

These two bands are used by major players like Airtel, Vodafone and Idea for their 4G services.
