Today i'm back with yet another intresting comparison thread. Qualcomm is the industry leader in manufacturing ARM-based Android smartphones processor. It is continuously improving the performance and efficiency of its mobile processors. In this thread, we are going to compare two midrange high-performance processors of Qualcomm, Snapdragon 636 Vs Snapdragon 625. So let's get started with this thread.

  • Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 has been quite popular in the midrange budget-friendly. Due to its high performance and better battery efficiency.
  • Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636 has just made its debut with Xiaomi’s budget-friendly Redmi Note 5 Pro.
  • Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636 is built on a 14nm manufacturing technology just like the Snapdragon 625 but optimized.
  • Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 has an integrated powerful Adreno 506 series GPU, but the Snapdragon 636 has got even better GPU, the Adreno 509.
  • Qualcomm’s Snapdragon supports Qualcomm’s Quick charge 3.0 technology, while the Snapdragon 636 supports much faster and much efficient Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 technology.
  • Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 is a powerful SoC for midrange smartphones. And with Snapdragon 636, Qualcomm has raised the bar to a new height.

The Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 625 mobile platform uses leading-edge 14 nm technology to power premium experiences in high-tier smartphones without draining the battery. With features like support for full HD+ (1080p), integrated X9 LTE, and Qualcomm® Adreno™ 506 PC-class graphics, the Snapdragon 625 is designed to provide fast connectivity, vibrant displays, and performance that's both powerful and efficient.

Devices require less frequent charging thanks to a low-power Cortex A53 processor and efficiency-boosting features like universal bandwidth compression.

The Snapdragon 625's dual ISP supports rich detail for photos, in addition to an expansive set of camera features, like gyro image stabilization and enhanced autofocus.

An integrated Qualcomm Adreno 506 series GPU delivers processing power for dazzling displays.

Premium 4K video with HEVC capture and playback for optimal balance of quality and bandwidth.

Up to 3x the LTE upload speeds of most LTE devices - up to 150 Mbps, and advanced Wi-Fi with MU-MIMO - for super-fast sharing of high res photos and videos.

Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 3.0 is up to four times as fast as conventional charging and is 38% more efficient than Quick Charge 2.0. Spend less time charging and more time doing.

High-end features in the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 636 mobile platform make this a powerful 600-tier platform, with Qualcomm Spectra™ ISP, Qualcomm® Kryo™ CPU built on ARM Cortex technology, and Snapdragon X12 LTE modem for up to 600 Mbps downlink speeds. Designed to support advanced photography and enhanced gaming, Snapdragon 636 boasts long battery life and fast LTE speeds for top-tier smartphones and tablet.

The 14-bit Qualcomm Spectra 160 ISP is engineered to support capture of up to 24 megapixels with zero shutter lag, and offer smooth zoom, fast autofocus and true-to-life colors for improved image quality.

The Kryo 260 CPU has up to 40% higher performance than Snapdragon 630—with independent efficiency and power clusters, each designed to optimize for a unique user experience.

With LTE downlink speeds up to 2X faster than the prior generation, the Snapdragon X12 modem is designed to quickly download a favorite TV show or an entire album worth of songs in many locations with great consistency.

I'm not 100% sure, but i think sd 636 is actually a clocked down version of sd660. Both have kryo CPUs normally used in the higher end processors like sd935, 845, etc. So, if I'm right, then 636 is definitely way better than 625. Definitely a worthy upgrade.
